Unlike in other generations, the villainous teams were the exact same in these two sets of games. Team Rocket decided to make a return in GSC after their plans fell through when Red stopped them in Kanto, but needless to say they once again were defeated. Which version of Team Rocket did you find to be better? Would you have liked to have seen another evil team in Johto as opposed to Team Rocket?

I enjoyed them most in the Yellow version. I liked how 2 of them would approach you at one time (and I still wish someone would make a GBA remake of Yellow so those battles could be doubles). But overall, I like Team Rocket more than any of the other villains. The only thing I would change is the fact that they all use the same damn Pokemon. If their parties were just switched around and made more difficult it would have a big impact. The same Pokemon over and over is just annoying.

I really enjoyed Team Rocket in the Johto series of games, even to the extent of liking them more than in Kanto! They just seemed meaner and more driven to me, with the set purpose of trying to coax Giovanni out of hiding and training, to resurface and bring Team Rocket back to their peak. It was a really interesting narrative and I enjoyed it a lot, Giovanni was really good as a villain but just is better in absence than in actually being in charge. It gave Team Rocket something to strive for, to probe to their old master that they're still worth his time. Also there being more than one recognizable Rocket member (in HGSS at least) was nice, pounding on Grunts gets old after a while.

I really like the scripted events in Johto, I get the impression that they really tried to extend the storyline and playability for as much as they could to enhance longivity, they even dropped them off the Radio Tower for a final strike. Like with RBY, GSC feels a bit "empty" after their last apperance in the Radio Tower. From there, you get that feeling of "That's it?". In other words: Team Rocket is CRUCIAL for the storyline in the Metal Generation. As for which one is the better, I'd have to go with the GSC one. Team Rocket feels very "static" in RBY, they just stands there until you approaches them. In GSC they ran up to you, caught you off guard. In RBY you had time to prepare and knew nothing would happen untill you stepped into that Silph Co. Tower (boooring!). This is because the scripting system is much better and more developed in GSC. However, no Giovanni in GSC is a huge letdown. There should of been a final confrontation in the mountains or something (or why not have him storm the 8th gym in Kanto?).
