No deadlines yet, I only have diptool on my computer at home and I need to find a download for it before we can proceed, but that will sort itself out. We also need a volunteer for our orders recipient. We will begin shortly once those issues are resolved. I expect to begin tomorrow.

[Lastly, in past games a lot of chat c+p has happened. While you can obviously betray things others have said, I ask that we do not do this (translation: don't do it) as it removes some of the uncertainty inherent in the game. If France tells Germany England is attacking him, Germany should have to consider whether or not France is lying. So yeah.]

The deadline for orders is Tuesday at 11:59 PM. If numerous people need more time I'll extend it but we need to keep pretty tight deadlines or the game will take forever. Also, a reminder that you can send pictures or messages or whatever with your orders for funsies. Or post in the thread if you're so inclined.

if anyone wants to use diptool for whatever purpose (i've found it helps with visualizing stuff that you're reading in the guides), you can download it here.

also, to get started on a new game, you go file > new group and then name it and click ok; from there you can right-click it in the window to the left and click the new game button (give it a name and click ok again). play around with it, since there's really nothing you can do to break it. oh and you'll also probably want to enable order editing. to change turns after you've edited in all of your supposed orders (to see what they'd do), right click the game name, go current turn > adjudicate

Anti gave me permission to run the game and replace any inactive players. As a result, Lalapizzame will be replaced by GolurkIsDaBomb. The deadline will be extended to May 5th at 11:59 PM to give Golurk a little while to get acquainted with the game.

I thought I'd post this short description of Diplomacy for new players (credit to Outlaw from Smogon):

Diplomacy is game about making alliances, breaking alliances, and reforming old alliances to better your number of supply centers in the game. Playing the deaf mute will only get you so far before another country decides you are not worth the spaces you comprise of and crushes you for your land. You have to negotiate with other nations if you want to win. You must tell the whole truth and nothing but it while lying through your teeth to succeed in this game. Feelings will be hurt and grudges will be formed. Friends can be enemies, and enemies can be friends. Make your stab and pray it doesn't backfire.

A player is eliminated from the game when they no longer control any supply centers. Alternatively, a player can choose to forfeit. This will leave his/her pieces on the board where they will hold or idle during every turn. Victory is achieved by a single player controlling 18 of the 34 supply centers OR if all of the remaining players agree to a tie. Diplomacy has 3 phases. Since this is online, you can talk to other nations any time you wish. The game begins in Spring of the year 1901 where you issue your first orders. After that turn is Fall 1901 and you issue your second round of orders. And finally the year ends in Winter 1901 where you either add or subtract to your total number of supply centers and in turn your army depending on how many you captured or lossed in Fall. Then the year begins anew with Spring 1902.

Even though this is a game of Diplomacy, you are never required to honor any promises you made to any nation. You are always out for yourself.

Orders should always been sent to him unless otherwise stated.

First off, I will mention that there was a problem with the orders. Austria intended to support my fleet into Bulgaria, but made a mistake by not writing the order properly. He said "A of bul supports fleet of bla." Besides the fact that he accidentally said A Bul instead of A Ser, he didn't state that he's supporting the fleet's movement into Bul. So, it could've been taken as a defensive support move. However, Anti and I agreed to accept that his order was meant to support my fleet into Bulgaria, because a defensive support move would have been impossible (the two units aren't touching each other). The Diplomacy rules generally state that even a poorly written order must be accepted if it has only one logical outcome. This will be a warning to everyone: be sure to properly write your orders. There two ways to support a unit:

Defensive: A Tri supports A Bul
Offensive: A Tri supports A Bul -> Vie

Now, the next turn is Winter for those that are wondering. Winter is different from other seasons because you do not command your units. Instead, you get a chance to build or destroy units each winter. The amount of units you can build are exactly the same as the amount of colored spots you have on the map. For example, Germany can build two units now that he has Belgium and Holland. Keep in mind that you can only build units in your original supply centers (the colored spots from where you started at). Additionally, later in the game you may lose supply centers (colored spots). If that happens, you will be asked to remove however many units in the winter until they are equal to how many supply centers you own.

The deadline for sending orders is May 15th at 11:59 PM (EST). Please send your build orders as soon as possible. It doesn't take long to do so, since they're only builds.

i'm not really ok with that (no offense to you aero, but i would voice my displeasure if it were absolutely anyone); it's really no excuse to say 'i got lazy and c/ped the orders' especially since it takes all of three seconds to type 'build f lon' and a couple seconds more than that to double check that it's what you want. i don't think it's fair because i could later say after a poor build that i made a mistake when typing and that i need to change it - it sets a precedent that we can go back over and fix poor decisions, which is something that we shouldn't be maintaining.

(not calling into question whether or not what you said was true, aero - it's just my point that people can later lie and use this as a precedent too)
