Hello everyone! This is my first attempt at Pokemon fiction, so I appologise if it's terrible.
Well, this story features the original trio (Ash, Brock and Misty) just because they rock my socks. However, it's a bit odd in that it takes place after the Johto adventures (which is when I stopped watching the cartoon series really, so I appologise for any discrepencies) yet they have clearly met Sinnoh Pokemon before. Odd? Definately. So sorry for that. Also, this story takes place in a new region, with new Pokemon (and a new type as well) and new characters. It also ties in with 'Mewtwo Strikes Back' and 'Mewtwo Returns' so some things may be confusing if you haven't seen both films.
And of course, Jessie, James and Meowth are there. Just because they are the best!
Right, the rant is over now. On to the story! Enjoy!

THE HANICHO TALES
Synopsis
Ash, Pikachu, Misty and Brock travel to the new land of Hanicho in their search of new Pokemon and battles. However, little do they know that Team Rocket leader Giovanni is hell bent on capturing the legendary Pokemon of the region and using their power to achieve his ultimate goal. Teaming up with the mysterious traveller Edward and the fun-loving breeder Gina, the gang work together to try and stop Giovanni from causing unmentionable destruction as well as trying to discover just how, and what, Edward knows about them.
Chapter One - Chopsticks
Brock lay on the bed as the whole ship rocked from side to side. Ill wasn't the word he'd use to describe himself right now, but he couldn't think of anything better so he stuck to that and kept a tight grip on the mattress. Misty was gazing out of the window thoughtfully, watching the sapphire waves and the school of Finneon that followed the trail of the ship. Ash, as usual, was sat on his bed eating a bar of chocolate with Pikachu. Just the smell of the chocolate was making Brock more nauseous than was humanly possible. 'Are we there yet?' He groaned into his pillow. Misty rolled her eyes, not turning away from the window. 'Well it was you that insisted on stuffing yourself at the buffet.'
'How was I supposed to know the sea would be this... what's the word?'
'Choppy, perhaps?'
'Yeah, that's it.'
Misty turned to look at him at last and laughed. The boys were sharing a bunk bed and Brock lay on top, his arm hanging over the edge and swinging around as the room swayed. Ash had sat further back on his bed to avoid being struck by the seemingly lifeless length that was an arm. 'I told you, we won't be there until tomorrow.' Misty moved away and sat on her own, bed (another bunk bed, but the top mattress was being used as storage space for bags). 'What about you, Ash? You're being quiet. I shouldn't complain really...' That caught his attention. He scowled at her from across the room and bit into his chocolate harder then he meant to. 'But,' she continued, 'the silence is welcome. No annoying little whiny voice in the background.'
'Whiny?' Ash sounded incensed as Pikachu tried to pat him into a calmer mood.
'Pika pi. Pika, pikachu.'
'What do you mean whiny?' He hadn't noticed Pikachu's efforts, and his voice rose in tone as he reached the end of the sentence. 'No loud noises please.' Brock whimpered from his pillow. He too went unnoticed as most people and Pokémon were when Misty wound Ash up.
'Well, you know. That whiny little voice that goes up in pitch like this, and then you pull a face like this…' Misty watched with smug amusement as Ash gave her a deadpan look. Her satisfaction was short lived however, as Ash stood up and manoeuvred around Brock's arm. Pikachu jumped up on to his back. 'Where are you going?' Misty demanded as the two of them left the room, Ash completely abandoning his hat. 'To get some food!' Was the only response she received. Brock shuddered as food was mentioned but after Misty slammed the door shut and stamped around the room in rage, he much preferred Ash's idea. But with Misty looking murderous, he decided to stay put and keep out of her way.
Ash and Pikachu made their way down the corridor in silence, Ash letting his feelings boil inside his head. 'She didn't have to come on this trip if she didn't want to. No one forced her!' It was only when Pikachu squeaked at him to look where he was going did he realise that he could have nearly tripped over a step. Thinking nothing of it, he made his way up the stairs and into the main foyer. The foyer was like everywhere else on this ship – white and silver, almost hospital like. He didn't like it, but at least the foyer was a little more decorative then the other places on board this over-crowded tin can. Another thing that bothered him about the ship was that it smelt permanently of cranberries. Now he liked cranberries, but a ship isn't supposed to smell of them. It's supposed to smell like sun cream and food. Maybe even shoes if you were "lucky" enough.
He bought some noodles from a small food cart in the corner of the foyer and ventured out onto the deck, Pikachu squinting in the bright sunlight. The warm sun licked at his skin and he looked up to a lightly clouded crystal sky. The Hanicho region – land of light. Ash could see why the called it that now, and they hadn't even arrived there yet. He was glad they'd decided to travel here now. He was told how nice Hanicho was by a fellow trainer in a Pokémon Centre a few weeks ago and since then Ash and Brock had decided to go there, Ash to capture new wild Pokémon and Brock to study them. Misty didn't want to go but ended up joining them as they were both being stubborn about the situation - and she needed to keep both of them out of trouble or who knows what would happen to them.
Ash smiled to himself at the thought of all the new adventures, Pokémon and battles that awaited him and handed Pikachu the packet of chopsticks as he kept hold of the food. 'Here you go, Pikachu, hold onto these while we find somewhere to sit.'
'Pika.'
'That is, if we ever find a place to sit.' He stopped and gazed up and down the deck. The whole place was full! Every available seat was taken and he certainly wasn't going to sit on the rail that separated him and Pikachu from the safety of the deck and a deep fall into the ocean. 'What do you think, buddy? Any ideas?'
'Pi.' Pikachu shook its head sadly, its stomach calling out for food.
A sudden sharp, strong wave buffeted the ship and Ash almost fell to his feet. Pikachu dropped the chopsticks as it clung onto Ash's neck. The other passengers fell too, some catching onto the ship for balance, others falling over completely, but nobody was thrown overboard. 'Pikachu, are you okay?' Ash asked as his friend climbed onto his shoulder. 'Pika!' It smiled at him. 'Well, that's good.' He leant against the ship. 'And look! The noodles are safe too!'
'And so are your chopsticks.'
'Huh?'
Ash looked at the chopsticks hovering in front of his nose and then up at the figure that was holding them out to him. He was a tall and imposing looking man, slim yet slightly muscular in build. He had neat, short and styled platinum hair with a single streak of purple running through it, pale skin, a sharp and angular face and eyes so dark that they seemed almost black. He looked like he was in his late twenties and he smiled down on Ash and Pikachu kindly. 'You can't have noodles without chopsticks.' He still smiled at them, looking on them both with a strange look in his eyes. 'Thanks.' Ash took the chopsticks from him and examined the man a little harder. There was something about him that seemed familiar. He had a deep voice, but did he recognise that? No, he was just jealous that it was attracting attention from the ladies as they walked past.
'It's nice to see you again, Ash.' That only confused the situation. 'Sorry,' Ash started, 'but do I know you, Mr…?'
'Of course, where are my manners?' The stranger bowed his head in respect. 'Edward Shade.'
'So, Edward. Have we met before?'
'Yes, but you may not remember, it was a long time ago. It's good to see you again also, Pikachu.'
'Pi?' Pikachu only tilted its head in confusion, obviously as bewildered as Ash was.
'But where have we met before? You do seem familiar.'
'I'm afraid that if you are to remember then it will have to be on your own.' Edward shook his head regretfully.
'But why?' Ash looked as confused as he felt.
'Things will be… easier that way. I'm sorry.'
'But where have we met? I know that I know you from somewhere! What happened last time we met?'
'I'm sorry, but I must go. Enjoy the rest of your journey and thank you.'
'For what?' But Ash's question fell on deaf ears as Edward quickly moved through the crowd and out of sight. 'Oh no, you're not leaving until I get some answers.' They followed his path through the crowd but couldn't find him, no matter where they looked. Little did they know that Edward was watching them from a higher deck, a small smile on his face. Little did they also know that Team Rocket were watching them from a lifeboat, hidden under the covers.
