The Harmonics Collaboration...
is the groundwork for what I hope to be a team effort, composed of intelligent, mature and talented individuals, on a Pokémon hack. I'm founding this team for the simple reason that finding a preexisting team with all the things I'm looking for is downright impossible. I'm a picky person, and I'll be the first to admit it.
This group will be working on a single project only, because I want it perfect. If you have visions of perfection, this team is right for you. Or, on the flipside, it could be absolute hell. Therefore, to prevent any unwanted mixups, here is what this team is all about:
1) Maturity. If you like to joke around and just take the world as it comes, then you have a very positive outlook in life... but if this means you can't take anything seriously, then we will have major problems as a team.
2) Style. No, you don't need "the moves," and I don't care how often you go clubbing. I mean uniqueness and individuality. I'm not just another random person on another random forum, and neither are you (I hope). The quality of work this team should strive for is unparalleled. Does this mean it's the best? Absolutely not, I'm not that cocky. However, it should be recognizable. No more generic "captur all da legendariz, lool."
3) Intelligence. Again, don't take this in the wrong light. I'm not looking for geniuses with IQs of 160 (though in theory that could help). I AM looking for people who know what they're doing, though. I can't hold your hand going through this project unless you can do the same. People have strengths and weaknesses; I have mine, and you have yours, but if you have nothing to contribute and you're just along for the ride, then we will not get along.
4) The ability to look at the last three requirements and say to yourself, "Hell yeah!" - Take it with a grain of salt and have fun! If this list looks intimidating, then don't join! In all seriousness, I want this project to be fun and fulfilling. If you're someone who fits these criteria, then wonderful! If not, you're no worse than anyone else, you just wouldn't match this team very well. No problem - there are tons of groups who want what you have to offer.
Finally, be warned...
I have the basics of the hack I'm planning to work on already fleshed out. Collaboration is important, and I always want second opinions, but the idea is already there. If, as you read on, you disagree with the majority of the content, do NOT join. I will not rewrite large volumes of my ideas to fit the ambitions of a single teammate.
Having said that, this does NOT mean you're opinion doesn't count! Again, I want the second opinions... just not a second hack.
About Me:
I've been playing the Pokémon series since Blue and Red. I finally ran out of steam at generation V, when I took one look at Vanillux and did a major face-desk. Aside from my general hate of most of generation V, I still retain my love for the series. My talents lie within creativity - I love mapping, writing music and coming up with interesting and humorous plot arcs. I'm good at realistic dialogue writing, know a lot about game balance and I have a background in psychology (there's a lot more of that to game design than you might think). I do NOT know a whole lot about the framework of how ROM hacking actually works, which means that collaborating with at least one very technically-minded individual would be very helpful.
Sometimes I'm a bit of a control freak. I'm working on it, I promise, but the ideas I have in mind, I've had for years. This means that I will not part with them willingly.
The Project
The hack I have in mind is a Pokemon game based heavily around music. Right from the start, your character will actually obtain their own personal symphony orchestra to follow them around, making remastered music a huge component of the style of this hack. I WANT to do a dual-region game in which Hoenn is revisited (though the land has been altered considerably), adding another area in which old music can be heard with new instrumentation. If possible, I want to add generation IV pokemon to the game, along with as many moves as possible... but I know the R&D behind this is somewhat halted at the moment.
The plot has been sitting on a shelf for over a year. There are holes, errors, things I no longer like, etc.. meaning that if you would like to contribute, you can! You may not, however, change the general structure of the overriding plot.
Does this sound exciting and unique to you? Do you fit the requirements? And are you sick of all of these massive walls of text?! I know I am - I had to type this mess. So, if you feel you are qualified and can contribute, please apply! And do so promptly, so I can use as much of winter break as possible working on this project.
Region Maps
Planned: East Hoenn; ruins of Mossdeep and Evergrande
*Both of these maps are original works (though Hoenn is obviously based off of the r/s/e map). You know what that means, right?

Sprite Artist - HIGH PRIORITY
Tile Artist - moderate priority
Mapper - very low priority
General Scripter - HIGH PRIORITY
Advanced ROM Mechanic (how does this **** work?!) - HIGH PRIORITY

Am I missing anything?
