CHAPTER 1
It was going to be the biggest day in his life; Kai was finally going to be a Pokemon trainer. He had been dreaming of this day ever since his brother left to be a pokemon master five years ago. It was about nine at night and Kai could hardly sleep, all could think about was going to professor Oaks house and getting his starter. All sorts of thoughts raced through his head. The hardest was which one to choose. He sat up all night trying to decide between Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.
The big day was here, Kai's mum came up to his room to wake him up but the effects of staying up late kick in and Kai fell back into bed. A few minutes his dad went into his room to wake him up. Kai was sleeping like a log he wouldn't wake up. His mum whispered into his ear that all the pokemon were chosen and he would have to wait until next year. Like a rocket, Kai sprang out of bed and like a bullet, he ran to the bathroom to get ready. "Hey mum you were only joking about the pokemon being chosen?" Kai asked worried. His mum nodded as she began packing.
The world seemed to stand still as Kai walked to professor Oaks lab. When he finally reached professor Oaks house, he took a deep breath before entering. He walked into professor Oaks lab as proud as ever thinking he was the first person there. "I've thought about it long and hard. I've decided to choose Charmander," said Kai. Professor stood by the three pokeballs trying to explain something to Kai. "Stop beating around the bush what is it," Kai asked. Professor Oak was a kind man and he found it very hard to tell Kai what happened. "You're late," Oak finally said after thinking of what to say. Kai worst nightmare had come true; he really missed out on his pokemon.
Kai took a slow walk to the pond near Pallet. He sat at the edge of the pond skipping stones holding tears of disappointment and anger. As he was tossing stones into the pond, he heard a familiar voice. "I'm really sorry you didn't get your starter pokemon," she said trying to comfort him. "I thought you said I wasn't late," he with a sad voice. "Professor Oak said that they beat you by at least five minutes," she said trying to ease the pain. Kai got up and started walking home.
Just before Kai could enter his house, he heard professor Oak calling his name. Kai looked down the road and saw professor on a bicycle coming towards him. Professor Oak tried to brake in front of Kai's house but the brakes failed and he crashed into a tree. "Are you okay?" Kai asked as he ran to help professor Oak. The professor got up as if nothing had happened. "Who put this tree here?" the professor said as he dusted himself off. "It's actually a Sudowoodo," Kai said as it began to move and run off. The professor and Kai looked on as the Sudowoodo tied to hide among other trees. "Did you want something," Kai said. Professor Oak tried to remember what he wanted to tell Kai but the crashing into Sudowoodo caused him to forget.
Kai invited professor Oak into his house to rest. When the professor saw a picture Kai's brother he remembered what he came for. "Your brother sent me an egg three months ago, it hatched today. I've discussed with him and his okay with me giving it to you as a starter," Oak said. These words brought back hope to Kai. His dream of being a pokemon champion like his brother was still alive. "Can I have now?" asked excited as ever. Oak explained that is was still at the lab. "If you going on your pokemon journey you'll need your bag," said Kai's mum as stood at the doorway holding his bag.
Kai and the professor took a walk back to the lab. When they reached the lab Kai couldn't wait, leaving the professor in his dust Kai ran to the room where his pokemon was. The ball unique, it wasn't the usual red and white. This ball was different it was silver and white. Professor Oak removed the pokeball out of the glass dome. "Why is the ball a different color?" Kai asked. Professor Oak thought for minute trying to remember where he got it. "This ball was forged from pure magma," Oak said which was pure lies as the truth was he forgot where he got it from.
Professor Oak and Kai left the lab and went out side it was about five in the afternoon. His mum, dad and most of his family were there to see him call his pokemon for the first time. Professor Oak handed him the pokeball as his family snapped pictures. "I choose you!" he called out as he released the ball from his hand. The ball split in two and a red bolt of energy came out. The energy began to form a round shape. The red faded away and pokemon was clearly visible now. "What is it?" Kai asked in confusion. The pokemon began exploring its new environment. "It's a Gastly," Professor Oak said. The Gastly saw Kai holding the pokemon and went over next to Kai. Kai gently petted the Gastly. "It really likes you," Oak said as Gastly licked Kai's face. As soon as Gastly's tongue touched Kai he collapsed. Professor Oak recalled Gastly and rushed Kai to his lab.
