"The Punchy Pokémon" Episode Discussion

This episode is quite funny. Pikachu tries to punch a Hitmonchan, James gets Firepunched in the face, Team Rocket sucsessfully kidnap someone and Jessie suffocates James. But Ash leaves Primeape crying. Why does Brock enter GEODUDE?

I found it weird that the Rockets used Hitmonlee, as the Fighting types, at the time, don't like a Rocket type Pokemon. Yeah, the Pokemon probably didn't know its owner was false, but it felt weird.

Ironically, Pokemon Special would have Hitmonlee as a Rocket Pokemon a few years later. Freaky. Heh.

Edit: Because Geodude is his only Pokemon with hands and arms?

I can't remember if it actually was, but you said it was a Fighting-type tournament. Not that I really care, but 1. Why was it allowed to enter? 2. Why did Brock enter a type that gets super-effective hits from fighting types? Did he want to lose? 3. Why did Brock enter at all?

In case anyone thinks I'm making a big deal over it, I don't really care, I just find it funny.

Well, honestly, I couldn't find anything better for the episode discussion synopsis, so I decided to go at it straightforward. I had mused "Pokemon boxing," but it felt inappropriate. So, yeah. You think it's easy coming up with these every day?! Hehe.

1. Because Nintendo didn't do enough Fighting types, at the time?

2. Because he's a masochist?

3. Because the writers didn't want him left out?

Don't worry; I barely thought of him in the tour, either.

Edit: Hey, what about Poliwrath, due to its secondary type? Or, it would be too much of an advantage? I don't think it was in the episode, was it? Haven't watched it in years.

I love this episode! It's right up there with the Pokémon Grand Prix.

Pika Balboa was pretty cool with Rocket Punch and all. Ash looked like a good coach, but not really in the end. Primeape vs. Hitmonlee was good, but I was hoping for, maybe, Pikachu vs. Hitmonlee. But we know that wont happen.

Mostly, it's paint edits and a few "food dialogue edits." Craziness.

Heh, that part with Rocketto Dan/Team Rocket wanting food surprised me. The characters actually want food that Americans can recognize, and 4Kids still edits that? Sheesh.

Apparently a lot of people hate Ash in this ep because he gave his Primeape away. So what? What the heck is the big deal??!! Man!!

the hilarious thing was that primeape was given tothe guy so he could become a champion.he'd just won the P1 and so become a champion :)

Well, 4Kids' logic can surprise you.

I think the fandom didn't like it, because, for once, he had an actual powerhouse and "you let it go; what are you, nuts?!" Yeah, the others were strong, but they weren't off-the-chart powerful like Primeape (except maybe the rat). Or, the writers realized that it didn't fit Ash's image, due to its berserker brawler image and un-cuteness.

Of course, this is just my theory, so take it with a grain of salt.
