This fanfic is actually based on an AIM RP that I do with "Drak Hamayashi," a major fan of Lugia and Diablo games. Basically, this is my part of the story before I meet up with his characters. From there, it will basically be a collaboration when we first meet at Littleroot Town. Anyway, it's a mix of Pokemon and Diablo, so, eh... Here goes! Hope you like it!

The Quest for the Legendary Protector

    By: Drak Hamayashi and Pyra

    Chapter 1: An Accident

In the heart of an active volcano where the mountain village of Vulcan City rests, a young girl is in a field and playfully chases a Blaziken. She was small for her age, but she loved her parents? Pok?mon dearly. The mother stood at the porch with her needles and a ball of yarn, knitting a little scarf for her daughter as the winter months drew near. The father watched as his Blaziken, although it was extremely powerful, delicately pick up his child and carried her around the yard on its shoulders. She giggled gleefully as it leapt across a river and dashed through the trees. Her soft black hair glistened as she was carried about. The Blaziken came to a stop at its master?s feet and set down the child. The girl scrambled into her father?s arms and giggled as he stared into her bright blue eyes.

    ?Phoenix fun!? she giggled.

?Yes, Phoenix is certainly is a fun Pok?mon to play with, but I need him to fight with me,? her father explained his rough hands ran through her soft brown hair. ?I promise Phoenix will be back later, ok, Pyra??

The girl slid out of his arms and held on to Phoenix?s legs. The Blaziken knelt down and ruffled her hair. Pyra giggled and hugged it before it followed her father to the gym at the entrance of the volcano?s cave. The mother went to the father and accompanied him to the gym.

?Shinjo, do you think we should soon tell Pyra her duty?? she asked as he changed into his gym uniform.

The mother already had on her uniform, which was a red dress decorated with black beads in an image of the legendary dragon, Rayquaza. A headband came around her forehead and in the middle stood a black crescent moon. She watched as her husband put on a long red robe with a golden tongue of fire emblazoned on the back.

?Aquania, my love?? he sighed as he called back his Blaziken. ?She?s only 6 years old? She?s not even ready to have her own Pok?mon yet??

?Yes, but do we have to wait any longer?? she whimpered. ?Your health is not as strong as it was before? You very well know of Hydra?s warning??

?I may not be in the best of health, my dear, but I will keep continuing to guard what has been passed down to me? Much like those before me.?

Aquania picked up a Pok?ball containing her prized Dragonite, Hyokuryuu. The gym they ran was a large one and had many ancient scriptures hanging on the walls. There was a strange feeling hovering around here, but to every challenger, it was nothing but a motivation to keep up the fight. It was run under the official Pok?mon League rules and held the honor of presenting the Flame Badge, a special badge that was given to trainers who dared to challenge the best of the best before going on to the Elite Four of the Hoenn Region. Of course, this wasn?t a mandatory badge, but it proved to the trainers if they had what it took to take on the famous Hoenn Pok?mon League, which consisted of 3 weeks of fighting and training against other trainers. Those who did get the Flame Badge were allowed to fight the Elite Four of the Hoenn Region and possibly become the next champion. Few dared to fight against Fire Master Shinjo Pyroa and Water Mistress Aquania, the two leaders of Vulcan City Gym. Their rule for battling was two-on-two, a fearsome fight as they use the opposite type: a dragon/flying for Aquania and fire/fighting for Shinjo. They walked into the stadium and watched as their challenger stepped forward. The battlefield was an open one with a boarder of boulders lining the edge and a pool of water in the middle. Behind the gym leaders stood a canvas banner with a symbol of a black dragon holding the badge of the gym, a dark energy symbol behind a tongue of fire. Pyra sneaked in and rode on Crusher, her father?s Groudon, to the second floor. She could see everything from here and she loved to watch the battle heat up.

?My name is Dharma Natasha from Springleaf Field!? the challenger shouted. ?I have come to challenge the gym leader here so that I may be able to challenge the Elite Four of the Hoenn League!?

?Then you mean to challenge the leaders,? Pyroa replied.

    ?What do you mean??

?This gym is run by two leaders,? Aquania explained. ?Much like the one in Mossdeep City.?

?Great, another double match? Who?s the other leader??

    ?That?d be me, Aquania.?

?Well, do you accept my challenge??

?As gym leaders for Vulcan City Gym, we, Fire Master Shinjo Pyroa and Water Master Aquania, accept your challenge!? the couple replied together.

The referee for the match came out, each hand holding a flag, one red and one green. Pyra climbed on Crusher?s back and straddled on his shoulders for a better look.

?Ooh?? she whispered. ?Mommy and daddy are going to battle and there?s Michael coming out to judge it!?

Michael was one of the trainers working under Shinjo and Aquania to learn highly advanced techniques. He took care of Pyra a lot when the parents were out of the house and pretty much played with her before he became the referee. He stood on the pedestal, looked to the leaders, and then announced the rules.

?The trainer from Springleaf Field, Dharma Natasha, challenges the Vulcan City Gym Leaders to a two-on-two match,? he announced. ?The challenger will choose two Pok?mon while the leaders each choose one. Once both Pok?mon of either side loses, the match will be declared. Are you ready??

The leaders nodded and each held a Pok?ball while Dharma held on to two.

    ?THEN LET THE MATCH BEGIN!?

?Phoenix, I choose you!? Shinjo shouted as he threw his Pok?ball.

?Hyokuryuu, go!? Aquania giggled as she threw hers.

A Blaziken appeared in front of Shinjo and flared its wrists while a beautiful Dragonite did a loop in the air and landed softly.

?So, a Blaziken and a Dragonite, huh?? Dharma muttered. ?This is going to be a whole lot harder, especially with that Dragonite!?

She threw her Pok?balls into the air.

?Time to rumble, Gengar and Dusclops!?

The two ghosts appeared on the field and got into their battle stances. Pyra looked on eagerly as the battle began. She was very much afraid of ghosts, but she loved to watch a battle, no matter what types were on the field.

?Gengar, use Night Shade on Dragonite!? Dharma ordered. ?Dusclops, use Earthquake on the Blaziken!?

?Hyokuryuu, fly up and do Thunder!? Aquania shouted.

?Phoenix, jump it and land a Blaze Kick!? Shinjo commanded.

Gengar shot a beam of dark energy at Hyokuryuu, only to miss its mark and get a flaming Blaze Kick in the face by Phoenix. Dusclops, on the other hand, just barely dodged the Thunderbolt after the earth shook and waited for the next move.

?Gengar, Dusclops, use Double Team, now!?

The ghosts began to grin evilly as multiple Gengar and Dusclops surrounded the leaders? Pok?mon. Shinjo only laughed.

?You think that?s good enough for you to hide? Think again! Phoenix, use Foresight to find those ghosts!?

Sure enough, the duplicates disappeared and the real ones were left.

?Oh no!? Dharma whimpered. ?That Blaziken just had to use Foresight to find them! No matter? Gengar, Dusclops, Psychic attack, now!?
The eyes of the ghosts glowed red, but Phoenix jumped on Hyokuryuu, who took to the sky and dodged the attack. From there, Phoenix jumped off and flew downwards with great speed and did an up-close Fire Blast on the Dusclops.

    ?No!? Dharma exclaimed. ?Dusclops!?

Dusclops tried to get back up, but it was no use. It had used up the last of its energy.

?Dusclops is unable to battle!? Michael announced.

Pyra climbed higher to get a better look, but lost her grip and fell off the balcony?s edge. Crusher tried to grab her, but it was too late.

    ?DADDY!!!? she shouted. ?MOMMY!!!?

Shinjo looked up and saw his daughter falling. He ran to her and caught her before she fell, but he had broken his hip as he landed heavily against a boulder. She buried her face in his arms, crying. Crusher landed next to him and helped him up.

?Pyra?? he whispered, wincing from the pain. ?Are you all right??

He sat down as Aquania and Dharma ran over.

?Shinjo! Are you hurt?? Dharma asked as she knelt down.

    ?I?m fine? Grr?? he panted.

He laid on his side and gasped in pain.

    ?Must?ve hurt the hip??

    Aquania looked at Michael.

?Go get the ambulance and tell them to hurry!? Aquania ordered.

The referee nodded and ran off to the hospital. Pyra was still crying from the event, totally afraid.

?There, there, Pyra?? he comforted. ?No need to cry? Nothing bad happened??

Dharma called back her ghosts and watched as the Blaziken carried its master to the waiting stretcher. Aquania took her daughter from her husband?s arms and sat in the ambulance with him. Pyra whimpered as she saw how much pain her father was going through because of her.

?Will daddy be ok?? the child whimpered as the vehicle drove to the nearest hospital.

?Yes, he will be just fine,? her mother answered in an unsure tone.

They stayed in the hospital for a few days. Shinjo had indeed broken his hip, but also fractured his arm. There was no way that the gym would be open for 3 weeks or so. They went back to their home, the Fiery Mansion, and waited for Shinjo to recover. Pyra, however, thought it was her fault and took on the responsibility of running the gym while her father was in bed. She quickly put on her traditional dress, and ran to the gym with Phoenix?s and Hyokuryuu?s Pok?balls in her pouch, where she found Dharma sitting on the bench with Michael.

?How is your father?? Michael asked.

?Daddy in bed,? she replied. ?I?m here to help.?

    ?Help? How?? Dharma asked.

?Help finish the match,? the girl replied. ?According to gym rules, trainers can?t get badge until the match is decided.?

?True, but you?re not qualified to even get your first Pok?mon.?

?But I want to help mommy and daddy!?

Michael could see the determination in the child?s eyes. He always knew that Pyra had the knack of using her parents? Pok?mon easily, but for a gym match, could she even do it?

Try to put a whole extra blank line between your paragraphs, it might look neater and it would be eaiser to read, and I saw you just dove into those things, let me tell you, it was strange how the girl was falling then all of a sudden the dad came and then broke his hip, that I might be wrong about but you can ask someone do tell you about it better than I did, but other those things, your storys pretty good! :)

I agree, I'm not sure how the father could have broken his hip in the process of catching his daughter... You did rush things a bit, and that's okay. It made me want to read the next chapter, to understand what's actually going on.

The paragraphing, as has been stated, is a bit odd. They need to have a whole blank line between them, as it makes reading your fic much easier.

One last thing, one that I myself really need to work on: descrpitions of your surroundings. I have no idea what the home your family lives in or what any of the people look like. I have no clue what the Gym looks like (and that's an awesome place to get creative!). Descriptions are an important part of a fic, as they really allow us to "see" what's going on.

This sounds like an interesting fic. I'm anxious for the next chapter.

    Yeah, I guess I rushed it a bit... Guess I was trying to put down all the ideas before I forgot them! ^^;

I'll fix this chapter up and then post the next one. Glad you guys like it though! Maybe I might put up my Metroid fanfic in the other forum. That one has a lot of the descriptions that you might be looking for, Mew13.

Sarafina, I was doing this on Word, but it seems that it doesn't take over the format I had... Err... Is there a way to indent the first line only on this messageboard?

I'll post up Chapter 2 soon, and thanks for the tips!

If you're doing your fic on Word (as I do) you have to type paragraphs with a full line between them there. There is no way to indent on the forums.

Ok, I edited the first chapter and hope that's a little better. Here's the second chapter, but it only holds the battle scene. Just leave your comments if you see anything that might need a little editing...

Chapter 2: Rematch with the Gym Leaders? Child

Pyra stood at one end while Dharma stood at the other.

?The trainer from Springleaf Field, Dharma Natasha, asks the Vulcan City Gym Leaders? daughter, Pyra Pyroa, for a two-on-two rematch,? Michael announced. ?The challenger will choose two Pok?mon while the leaders? daughter also chooses two. Once both Pok?mon of either side loses, the match will be declared. Are you ready??

Pyra nodded as she held the Pok?balls the best she could in her small hands. Dharma only grinned slyly as she saw she was up against what seemed to be an easier opponent.

?She won?t be much of a threat?? Dharma thought. ?Even as a gym leader?s child, it doesn?t show who you really are until the battle heats up??

?My first gym match!? Pyra thought happily. ?I?ll help my daddy the best I can!?

    ?THEN LET THE MATCH BEGIN!?

?Dusclops, Gengar, I choose you!? Dharma shouted.

?Hyokuryuu, Phoenix, let?s go!? Pyra squealed.

Michael watched helplessly as the teams were set up. He had never seen Pyra battle before and he was afraid that this was not going to end well at all, but little did he know that Pyra had already planned some things ahead.

?Hyokuryuu, use Mist! Phoenix, use Foresight!? Pyra shouted 5 seconds into the battle.

The Dragonite flapped its wings, only to have a fine mist cover the entire stadium. Phoenix quickly used its Foresight before the ghosts could move and hid in the mist.

?Grr? This girl?s harder than I thought?? Dharma muttered. ?Ok then, Dusclops, use your Shadow Punch! Gengar, use Shadow Ball!?

The two ghosts charged up a mass of dark energy, then released on the opposing side. However, Phoenix had jumped on Hyokuryuu and the two were in the air, still shrouded by the mist. Dharma heard the explosion from the Shadow Ball, but the Shadow Punch had lost its mark.

?Gengar, Dusclops, use Psychic in the mist!?

?Phoenix, use your Flamethrower! Hyokuryuu, follow Phoenix and use your Flamethrower also!?

The two Psychic attacks had missed their mark again, but the two ghosts were in for more as the two Flamethrower attacks found their mark. However, they were just barely hanging on. Pyra saw this and quickly called her mother?s Dragonite.

    ?Hyokuryuu, THUNDER ATTACK!?

The Dragonite flew into the air and roared as a giant bolt of lightning fire from nowhere.

?Gengar! Dusclops! Get out of the way and use Lick!?

The ghosts just barely dodged it and extended their tongues, but Phoenix and Hyokuryuu had an idea. Phoenix ran one way while Hyokuryuu flew another. It wasn?t long until their tongues were tied and couldn?t move. Thanks to the Foresight maneuver it used earlier, Phoenix grabbed their tongues and waited for Pyra?s command.

?Ok, Phoenix, let?s finish this off! Seismic Toss!?

Still holding on, the Blaziken leaped into the air with its opponents, then came crashing down to earth, leaving a fair-sized crater in the ground. Phoenix leaped out and stood next to Hyokuryuu. Dharma fell to her knees as both of her ghosts fainted on the spot. Neither she nor Michael could believe that this young girl, barely old enough to have her own Pok?mon, could actually fight in her parents? place as a gym leader.

?Dusclops and Gengar are unable to battle!? Michael announced. ?This gym rematch goes to the leaders? daughter, Pyra Pyroa!?

    Chapter 3: Trainer Stories

Pyra ran over to Phoenix and hugged its leg.

?Hooray!? she exclaimed. ?We did it!?

Dharma could only smile as she called back her ghosts and walked over.

?You know, you?re pretty good for a gym leader?s kid,? she commented.

?Thank you, but it was my mommy and daddy who taught me everything,? Pyra giggled as Phoenix set her on its shoulders. ?Phoenix and Hyokuryuu are
my friends, and friends help out whenever they can!?

?Yes, you know a lot about friendships,? came a voice behind her. ?But you still have yet to learn to not fight in matches until you?re old enough.?

Pyra cringed as she saw her mother step out.

?Pyra, just what so you think you?re doing?? she asked.

?I helped you and daddy finish the match!? her daughter chirped.

    ?You did, did you??

?Yes, ma?am,? Dharma replied. ?Your daughter was very challenging and managed to defeat me before I could counter anything.?

    ?Well, she does learn fast??

?Miss Aquania, this match has taught me several things, like friendships and how not to underestimate even the youngest of opponents.?

?That is one lesson you shouldn?t forget.?

?Yes, and now I must go on and continue my training before coming back here for an official rematch. Until then, give my regards to the other leader, Shinjo.?

?Yes, and may your journey be a safe one.?

Dharma knelt down in front of Pyra, took off the bandana that was tied around her forehead, and gave it to the little girl.

?Here, Pyra, this is for you.?

    ?Why??

?Well, because you taught me a few things.?

?But we were only having a battle.?

?Yeah, but you also taught me things. Now, I must be on my way.?

?Dharma, do you have a place to stay??

?Nah? It?s ok? Usually I camp out.?

?We can give you a lodging for the night,? Aquania offered. ?It?s the best we can do for any traveler who comes here.?

?Then I guess I can?t turn down such hospitality, can I??

Pyra giggled as she took Dharma by the hand and led her to the guesthouse in the back. Dharma gasped in awe as she saw how many different Fire-, Water-, and Dragon-Type Pok?mon were roaming freely. A baby Bagon waddled around its mother and then crawled after Pyra. The girl picked it up and hugged it as it purred.

    ?Hello, Nils!? she greeted.

?Nils?? Dharma asked. ?Is that its name??

?Yep! Daddy says that I might be able to keep him when I begin my Pok?mon journey!?

?Just how old are you, anyway??

?I?m six right now, but in 4 years, I get to go and travel the world!?

?But you have a great adventure here as a gym leaders? child.?

?Yeah, but every time I see other trainers come in, I feel sad that I can?t see what they see??

    ?What do you mean??

?Like you, trainers stay here for a few days or so before they leave. I visit them and they tell me stories of their journeys and the Pok?mon they see.?

    ?Like what??

?They tell me about the caves they walk through, the forests they hiked, and the mountains they climbed. I always wanted to see such things??

?Well, maybe when you?re of age, you can follow the footsteps of your father and mother, and possibly even become the next leader here.?

?So you have any stories for me??

    ?Hmm? I might have one??

The two went into the guesthouse and sat on the couch. They talked all night until Pyra fell asleep. The next morning, Pyra found Dharma checking her things. Nils was still snoring, so she put a little blanket on him and quietly walked over,

?Morning, Pyra,? the trainer greeted. ?Had a nice sleep??

    ?Uh-huh!?

?I have to get going now??

    ?Oh??

?Yeah, I have to go back to Littleroot Town to pick up a few thing, then go on to the Hoenn League.?

?Wow? The Hoenn League? I?ll cheer you on when you battle!?

?Thanks. Are you going to be there??

?Yep! All gym leaders have to go there every year so that they can see what the trainers who battled them have learned.?

?I know I learned a few things here? Maybe I?ll challenge your parents again.?

    ?Maybe!?

Pyra led Dharma to the gym gates, where her mother was waiting to bid the trainer safe journey.

?Ready to go, Dharma?? Aquania asked.

?Yes, but I?ll be back to ask for another rematch. Good-bye!?

Pyra hugged Dharma?s leg and then went to her mother.

?I?ll be cheering you on!? the little girl shouted.

They watched until Dharma disappeared into the woods. Pyra slid out of her mother?s arms and held her hand as the other held on to Nils.

    ?Mommy??

    ?Yes, dear??

    ?Can I become a Pok?mon trainer??

    ?When you are older.?

    ?Can I bring Nils??

?That your daddy and I have to talk about.?

    ?Oh??

?But don?t worry, you?ll get a starting Pok?mon no matter what.?

Pyra?s face beamed as they headed off into their home.
