The 'what'd he/she say in the original?' thread

I saw the pictures, but I still want to know what's being sad. Nobody seems to know, but everyone is going "contest ship is teh uber cnaon lol"

I just want to know if her mom accused her of liking Shuu, because that's what everybody seems to think without knowing what was said.

I'm pretty sure that's what her Mom said. She mentioned the same thing that made Haruka blush in their first encounter with Shuu in the episode, if I remember correctly.

Perhaps.. I'm just going to wait and see how the dub treats it...

Anyway.. I've seen a quote floating around Sppf ...

Misty: They love each other! They just won't admit it!
Tracey: That's just like you and Ash!

Well... Let me be the first to say that that line is a misquote. The dub line actually went like this...

Misty: They don't want to admit it, but they really care about each other...
Tracey: You know, that's like you and Ash!
Misty and Ash: *glare* YOU MUST BE CRAZY!!!

yeah.. alot of controversy... I want it settled once and for all... was it in the original, or has it been changed?

I have no idea... I hope so...

I guess we'll have to wait and see....

What did Meowth say in the original when he said "I'd dwink to dat!" in A Six-Pack Attack?

Good question! I wish I knew..

*sigh* It seems as though we have more question than answers in this thread...oh well

I have another quote which I want clarified..'

Ash: Brock, you look like the ice-cream man!
Misty: He just means that you look cool and very sweet!

Well.. the direct translation wouldn't work in chinese (in chinese. sweet just means sweet as in sugar)... so I'm not sure if it would work in Japanese either.. does anybody know?

Sounds like a dub only thing. o_o

As for Nyaasu, I'd have to look back on the episode to be exactly sure (though I can't be bothered to), but IIRC, it was a simple them congratulating themselves. And just so you know, they were always drinking water in both versions..only they had wine glasses filled with water.

I guess most of the puns would have to be dub-only as they have different connotations in other languages~

You're probably right.. There's always going to be some changes due to translation...

But in some cases... they change the dialogue for seemingly no reason

For eample...

"Besides.. you don't need any beauty sleep'

Which, I've heard.. Is very different to the original

Episode and who said it, by any chance?

Speaking of lost in translation, the whole "Cowterpie" thing is a perfect example.

Misty: A bug!
Ash: Maybe it's a Cowterpie!

Kasumi: Mushi!
Satoshi: Ushi?

Mushi means bug, or insect in Japanese. Ushi is cow in Japanese. Hence why Satoshi pops up wearing a cow outfit.

Ohmigosh. That's so cute! Mushi! Ushi! XDD I want that episode now..

Well, at least the "Cowterpie" thing works. ^^

Who said it? It was Ash.. talking to Misty...

I forgot what episode it was in.. but I'm pretty sure it was at the end of the Master quest.. close to the episodes such as "Hocus Pokemon" and 'As Clear as Crystal'

Guess how Pokeshippers interpreted it?

wow.. I almost forgot when Ash dressed up.. it's funny!

It worked alot better in Japan. In the US it was completely random. XD

Hehe.. yep,.. random!

And I have another translation which is also funny (and doesn't relate to shipping)

Ok.. remember when they went to the City where two Gyms were battling eah other and changed their names? Well, here's what they changed thier names to in the original...

Ash = Calls himself Ketchup (hence the tomato, I guess)
Brock= Call himself Curry Rice
Misty = Calls herself Chicken Rice

Funny huh? :D

Buahah. I remember that. XD Ketchup isn't a name, techinically in US speech. (Blah, I don't know what to call it, seeing as Pok?mon shows in other countries besides America. ><") But Tom is! Tom A. Toe. o.O;

Ann Chovie is far off from Chicken Rice. Ceasar Salad is a salad. The Kanto dubs are sooo random. >>;

Ok.. I have another question..

apparently in the dubbed version of Brock's special, his brother Jiroo (what'd they change his name to anyway?) seems to be as girl crazy as Brock is :D

Is this the case in the original, or is this dubbed in?
