Here, I'll share thoughts on my ongoing fic's development and central cast.
Playing with expectations began with the story's title. "The Stray Rocket" alludes to incompetence, but not that of Team Rocket. In-storyline, "stray rocket" is a term applied to card players deemed unworthy of joining Team GR (from the video game Pokemon Card GB2).
Name: Citrata
Bio: The eponymous protagonist, nicknamed Cici. Athletic and wealthy, yet initially somewhat unfamilar with the outside world. She grew up on an island where few/no Pokemon live. It manifests in the weakness of sometimes attempting moves her fledgling team can't learn.
Desciption: Likes black clothes. Platinum hair, light skin, green eyes, slightly tall height (her similar build to Jessie is lampshaded).
Age: 18
Team: Axew (caught), Chespin (starter), Hoppip (borrowed from Regina)
Other info: Struggles with dancing. Relatives named after plants.
Name: Akane
Bio: Quiet, mysterious bookworm. Rescued by Absol on a mountain trip some time ago, they've been close since. A woman of several hobbies, including writing, chess, and detective novels.
Desciption: Black hair, dark skin, dark violet eyes (height/figure TBC).
Age: Unspecified (early 20s)
Team: Absol
Other info: In an intentional contrast to her few-words "kuudere" personality, her namesake is the outspoken Ranma 1/2 character.

Bio: Skilled aviator and valuable ally. Don't be misled by the cutesy princess act, involving speaking in the third-person; she has the confidence to rarely get sad or upset. Little interest in training Pokemon, however.
Description: Likes fancy pink clothes. Pink hair, light skin, gray eyes (height/figure TBC)
Age: Unspecified (teenage)
Team: Unknown
Other info: Relatives (and family butler) named after Ace Attorney characters.
Senna: Regina's "darling" boyfriend, she treats him like a prince.
Cycas: Citrata's amnesiac father. Believes himself to be the superhero Cacnea-Man, oblivious to the fact his identity is not secret.
Arya: A cheerleading "stray rocket", originally from Paldea. Golden hair, hazel eyes, minimally suntanned.
Royle: Bratty thief. Wanted for stealing Pokemon, plus shoplifting, thus far. He also appears semi-secretly infatuated with Citrata.
I took a different approach for the wrestlers' kayfabe personas, they lampoon other stories of mine (mostly unpublished).
