Even some of the games in the horror category don't even feel like horror games. Resident Evil 5 for example is a very bland action game that is not really that horrific at all, because you just spend the whole game picking up ammo and shooting villagers, and fighting the occasional mutated monster.

State of Decay is getting a sequel soon, but it's just an open world adventure game with zombies in it, and I don't think there is anything terrifying about it.

Obscure on the PS2 was released 12 years ago, and it had a pretty good co-op mode in it. It was a fun game. They just don't make good co-op horror games like that anymore.

Dead Space 3 has co-op but it plays like RE 5 and 6. I hated O.R.C. because it was awful.

It's the same reason movies aren't as scary with friends.

Co-op just doesnt work with horror very well as your less afraid if you have someone to back you up. Of course there are exceptions to this but they're few and far between.
