Thoughts on a hypothetical Female Rival

Excuse me if this was done before...

Since Serena's going to be Ash's new companion, what do you think of the concept of a female rival for Ash as others speculated she'd be? That is, his main one like Trip and Paul. And I don't mean just for XY just so we're clear.

Try to answer these three questions as your response:

Would the writers even consider such a thing and go through with it (maybe to test the waters)? Best Wishes showed that there's a first time for everything.

How could they do it right? A stopped clock is right at least twice a day...

How could they do it wrong? Having traits of a Shonen Anime, there's obviously going to be some biased towards males with a TV executive's "boys like boys characters in main roles" mentaility.

What are your thoughts?

I hope they try it. But in the manga, Serena is a Sky Trainer. If they did that here (rider/sky trainer/fashionista) I wouldn't like it because it would just be another Iris and Misty (who didn't do much of anything), and not the many episodes of character development and awesome contests we got with May and Dawn.

I hope Serena and Ash both battle the Gyms and compete in the Pokémon League. How awesome would that be? I mean, they're already childhood friends who probably "like" each other, and making Serena into a Paul-like rival would be amazing.

The writers didn't do a good job testing the waters in Best Wishes, but three episodes into XY and it looks like they're getting better. Let's hope it keeps getting better.

Ash already had enough jerkish & serious mined male rival such as Paul , Gary & Trip.
May be , An arrogant , rude , prideful & Serious mined same-aged female rival will bring something new in this anime .
May be writer can create a Love-triangle between Ash with Serena & a female rival .
Ya Ya , Romance has nothing to do with pokemon .
But , Romance had nothing to do with ''Shugo Chara'' ether . It was about ''Heart-Egg'' that represent children's dream , desire & Would-be-self . But ''Shugo Chara'' does have a completed ''Love-triangle'' with Amu , Ikkuto & Tabase. (Actually Amu has a harem with 5 guy).
Even Doreamon has cannon romance even though Doremon is about all the mischief cause by Doreamon gadget .
