A thread in The Showcase in game development had 6 votes and an average of 4.00, I then voted it 4 stars. After a few minutes it update and said it still had six votes, but an average of 4.50, meaning 5 stars. Why did this happen. It's so unfair because it doesn't really deserve to have 5.

Sounds like you voted it 5 stars and not 4. The vB rating system doesn't really have any bugs, it'd be hard to mess up in any case. If you do the math, it seems you may have just cliked 5 stars rather than 4. But really, not many people pay that much attention to the rating system in any case. This is why you can reply to a topic, you can give a more in depth opinion, so if you're that concerned you would be best off just reviewing the game.
