Three-Stage Regional Bug With No Metamorphosis

How would you feel about a three-stage regional bug where the middle stage is not a pupa?

So I'm working of a fictional Pokemon game, and I have an idea for the regional bug that I think is cool, but it kind of breaks the pattern of regional bugs. It's a three-stage evolution, as most regional bugs are; but unlike every other three-stage regional bug, the middle stage is not a chrysalis/cocoon/pupa. More generally, there is no element at all of a "life cycle" of "metamorphosis"; the basic concept of what it is physically doesn't really change, and it just becomes a stronger version of itself, and the flavor of the human concept it invokes changes (more on this in a minute). I was concerned that this would make it feel less like a regional bug and more "like any other Pokemon," so I wanted to see how people would react to this deviation from the norm.

For added context, this game does not need a 400-ish-BST regional bug that evolves at level 10; as there are multiple such Pokemon from past generations available before the second Gym. (Also the first Gym is Grass type, so having such a Pokemon be available before the first Gym would probably be overpowered.) So this definitely wants to be a regional bug that evolves at more typical levels, like Orbeetle.

As for what it actually is, the idea is that it's an ant Pokemon that starts out as a lowly worker called Servant, then a colony guard called Vigilant, and finally an elite warrior of the colony called Valiant. The first stage is pure Bug type, and the latter two are Bug/Fighting.
