Hello all! This is Kazzy. I am posting my first Pokemon fanfic. Please let me know what you think. Constructive criticism please. R/R I'd like to know if this fic is going in a good direction and if I should bother to continue it.

    Together Forever
    By: Karen (Gar-Chan)

Jessie could make out only James' silhouette in the dark bedroom. She had grown accustomed to his nightly visits. This was a time they could just sit and talk and be themselves. They thoroughly enjoyed their nightly time together. If only they could spend more time doing things that couples do during the day. If only they didn't need to keep it all a secret from Meowth. Then perhaps things could be different. Each of their lives would be different if that were to transpire.

Meowth was downstairs curled up next to the fireplace, snuggling up to his favourite ball of yarn. The scratch cat Pokémon had become somewhat placid over the years. He still wanted to be Giovanni's number one feline but he had gained some gentleness working with Jessie and James.
James held out his hand to Jessie. "Come with me, I have something I want to show you." He was very excited about the news he was about to share. It concerned both of them, and their lives for the future. They had both been through so much during their time with Team Rocket. Good news was hard to come by for Rocket field agents such as they. Especially with their success rate being so low.

James had never been so happy about anything in his life. He wanted to shout his love for Jessie to the world. If it weren't for the fact that their relationship was sworn to secrecy, he would do just that.

Jessie didn't want their boss to find out about their feelings for each other. She thought he would see it as a sign of weakness in the team and would reassign them. She couldn't have Giovanni splitting the team up that way.
Jessie took his hand without hesitation. "Let's go, then." She said. She was growing more and more excited about his visits as each and every one showed sides of James that she never knew existed before. With each passing day, the bond between them grew more and more.

They quietly exited the house, leaving their Pokémon behind.
James' parents purchased the house they were living in for James. What his parents didn't know was that it was now a Team Rocket base of operations. His parents would not be happy if they knew the truth. James wanted to be a son his father could be proud of, and he was trying to do just that on this starry night.

James had run into his Nanny and Pop-pop one afternoon while he and Jessie were on a field mission. They had explained to him that his father wasn't getting much younger as the years passed and he was desperately trying to figure out what to do about his missing heir. James was the heir to his parent's fortune as well as their respectability in the upper-crust society that James loathed so much.

James tried to think of ways to get around it, but he was his father's son and nothing could change that. He just needed to think of a way that he could keep the team together and still fulfill his father's wishes.

Once they were outside, James took her hand in his and guided her to the edge of a cliff, which oversaw a beautiful meadow. The moon shone down on them and the whole scene was so lit up that you could question whether it was night or day. You could see all the various types of Pokémon that were gathering in the meadow and it gave it a serene atmosphere.

"It's beautiful!" she exclaimed, as she got out of James' arms. She had never seen such a beautiful meadow in all of her life. She couldn't believe how wonderful it was. It was something out of a storybook, she thought. She wanted the moment to last forever.

James kept surprising her in ways she would have thought he never knew how. Just what had he been up to these past few years? She thought.
"Yeah. And to think that it's all ours." He said. He looked at her waiting for her response. He knew that she wouldn't know what to do with his statement. They'd only toyed at the thought of coming out publically as being together. It was all he'd ever wanted though, to finally come out of the non-gay closet and have Jessie standing beside him.

"It is?" she asked. She had never thought that his parents accepted her. She could never measure up to Jessibelle in their eyes. She came from the streets and James' came from one of the wealthiest families in all of Kanto. How could they every truly be together with those sorts of obstacles in their way, she thought. Nonetheless, she waited impatiently for James' reply.

"Yes. When my mom and Dad bought this place for us they bought all of the surrounding land as well. 200 acres to be exact." James smiled at her. He wanted only the best for her. He was thrilled that his parents had agreed to help him in this aspect of his life. The house and location were his ideas and they graciously gave him the money to purchase them. It was their idea to purchase the surrounding land though.

    "For 'us'?" she continued.

"Yes, well, for me and my fiancée." He answered. His face started to turn slightly red at having to actually say it. He still couldn't believe what he was about to do. He turned to face her and got a small box out of his pocket.
He knelt down on one knee before her, his heart pounding. "I was hoping you would agree." He said, placing the ring on her finger, waiting for her response.

She didn't need to say anything. The look on her face was all he needed to know her answer. Jessie's girlish features and behaviours had started to come out since they'd been separated. She no longer seemed to have the domineering attitude she once had.

"Of course I will!" she said after coming back down to earth. She flung her arms around his neck and kissed him passionately. She had never felt as happy as she did at this moment. Finally, they could be together and no one could say a word.

They shared a rather intimate moment together. Jessie was thoroughly pleased with the foreplay and was eagerly awaiting James' decision to have intercourse with her. She had had intercourse in the past but it was never with anyone she truly loved before. It had always been a part of her cover to obtain some rare Pokémon or gain intelligence that Team Rocket needed. Never had it been for love.

Once they were finished playing around, Jessie was awaiting James' plans for her. "That was good." She said, relaxing her body.

He could feel her try to pull him onto her. "Jess, I'd rather wait until we get married, wouldn't you?" he asked. He had never felt so morally inclined before, but for some reason she made him feel like it needed to be that way.

"Yeah, I guess you're right." She said. She was impressed by his attempt to place her feelings above his. This was very sensitive of him, but then, that's just how James is, she thought.

They lay down on the blanket, looking up at the stars. "Have you ever wondered what life would be like without Team Rocket?" James asked. He had thought about it himself multiple times. He was never made for evil doing. He was much too meek and kind, but when you need money what else can you do?

She thought for a moment on all the good times they'd had working for Team Rocket. But, then she started remembering all the times they went without food, or their balloon broke down or even when they had no form of shelter because of how financially challenged they were. Even though James' family was rich, they wouldn't allow any of it to be put into his hands while he was dealing with Team Rocket. They must have had their own morals to uphold, she thought.

"Yeah. I wonder how you'll handle all of that money." She looked at him out of the corner of her eye. She thought perhaps that was the reason why he would want to leave Team Rocket.

"That's not the only reason I ask." He reassured her. "I also think we would see a big improvement in our living conditions if we left." He was only thinking about their well-being. Team Rocket could get screwed in his opinion. Especially after separating them for so long. Those years apart were tough on him. He wanted so much to be by her side. But, their being apart also toughened him up in certain ways.

Jessie raised an eyebrow in intrigue. "I suppose so." She said.
"Someday soon, we'll be free of Team Rocket, I promise. And, at that time, we will finally be able to live the lives of normal people." He said it more as a proclamation than anything else. He wanted them to be together forever.
James lay back on the blanket, staring up at the starry sky. He wondered what the future held for them. Would things go as smoothly as he hoped? He was a little concerned as to how Meowth would take the news. Surely, the Pokémon would be able to have a little compassion for them. They were all best friends, no matter what was to come. James needed to keep reminding himself of that. The past few years were not as kind to him as they had been to the others.

    Chapter 2

Jessie awoke the next morning to a noisy Meowth and a moody James. She couldn't comprehend that they could have anything to be so loud over first thing in the morning. It had been a long time since she had heard Meowth kick up such a fuss, so she decided she'd better check it out.

She was perfectly happy at that point in time after the wonderful night she'd had with her best friend. She could still hardly believe that she was now engaged to James. Even more so, she couldn't believe that they could make it through breaking the news to his parents.

"What's up, guys?" she asked. She slowly descended the staircase as she looked around their living room noticing a few objects out of place and the place had been turned into a general mess. Their books were strewn throughout the room as well as some of Meowth's items were missing. She sighed as she noticed one of her stockings had ended up on the lampshade. She had become a little irritated by this and it began to show on her face. She took a deep breath to regain her composure.

"Meowth is leaving us." James said with his arms folded. He gave the Pokémon a glare. He thought that Meowth was being very immature about all of this. James was offering him a cushy lifestyle and for some reason the cat wanted nothing to do with it.

In the end, James' could understand why someone wouldn't want to live in the upper-crust society that he had spent his whole life trying to escape from. Kind of ironic that in the end it was he who was begging for that lifestyle to take him back? He just knew that neither he nor Jessie was cut out for Team Rocket. Maybe Meowth could still make it as the Pokémon of another team, but he and Jessie weren't very good at it. They both knew it.
Jessie sighed seeing how immature James was behaving. "Like old times." She said to herself quietly. She remembered back to all the times that she would become increasingly angry with James and now he was starting to show those qualities again. She sighed. There are some things you just can't change, she thought.

"If he wants to leave then just let him leave." She said, a little more coldly than she had intended to. She was getting increasingly irritated with the two. She had been taught patience over the years, but they were definitely pushing their boundaries. She thought over her words. "I'm just giving him his own choice." She added and shrugged.

Meowth was behaving a little bit strangely over this and they both knew it. It was unlike the scratch-cat Pokémon to just bail on them. Maybe he had ulterior motives for leaving, but James had given him the perfect ploy.
Meowth continued collecting his things. "It's Jimmy here that's tryin' to break up the team!" Meowth retorted. "I still have my dream of being the Top Cat." He sighed, the whole thing being a blatant lie.

In actuality, Meowth had been seeing how the two were looking at each other for a long time and decided that perhaps it was time to leave the lovebirds alone. He had only been in the way of their relationship from the beginning. He knew that, and that was why he decided that even for just a little while, he would pretend he was leaving to join another Team Rocket team.

"We're getting a little old to just be gallivanting around the country-side and I just want to settle down for once." James said. He was clearly getting on the angry side. James never would have shown his angry side before. It was a side of him that Jessie took pride in seeing; it had shown her that he did a lot of growing up while they were apart. "I'm already 25 and I'm not getting any younger." He pointed his finger at Meowth to add emphasis to his statement.

"That's not why you want to leave, Meowth." Jessie interjected, her arms folded. She knew Meowth better than anyone in Team Rocket. They had spent so much time together; so many years, how could she not know that there was something else on the feline's mind. "There's another reason, you're just not telling us." She paused for a moment. "What is it?" She gave him a look to let him know she meant business.

Jessie put a hand on James' shoulder; the gleam from the rock on her finger caught the Pokémon's eye. He knew then what was really going on around the place. Why they seemed to be getting along so well lately. Why the place just seemed… happier.

This new information, which was being processed through Meowth's brain, was starting to slowly sink in. He had had his suspicions but this was certainly the icing on the cake, as it were.

"Are you two happy?" Meowth asked after he had calmed down. "You two always used to fight, and suddenly now you're all happy-go-lucky all the time." He was trying to force the truth out of them. Jessie's ring certainly told him all he needed to know in any case.

When James had done his disappearing act all those years ago, it was up to Meowth to pick up the pieces and aide in Jessie's recovery. James really hurt Jessie when he left, and James knew that, but somehow and for some reason, he came back. He'd just better not pull that stunt again, Meowth thought.

Meowth knew better than anyone that Jessie and James really needed some alone time, and that is why he decided to oblige. Regardless of how much Jessie would try to get him to stay, and regardless of how much he felt he should stay to keep James in line, he knew that leaving would do them all a world of good.

"We are happy." Jessie assured him after a time. "We've both done a lot of growing up in the past few years and I guess it just agreed with us more than we could have ever imagined." She smiled gently at Meowth. "And, you're welcome to settle down with us, Meowth." She then turned to look at James.

Meowth could tell then and there that they were deeply in love. He knew that, but still he couldn't get over the fact that James had hurt her before. He hurt them both by leaving.

Their time apart had done them a world of good in learning to understand their feelings for each other though, Meowth thought.

"It's alright. I understand." Meowth picked up his packed suitcase. "I'm going to get myself reassigned. I'll let the boss know your plans." He then turned to leave.

"Meowth, wait." Jessie interrupted. "We're a team even if we're not with Team Rocket."

Meowth grinned at Jessie. "You two will be newlyweds soon. I don't wanna be around for that." He laughed, and shed a tear. He wanted to stay with them truthfully, but he knew they all had some more growing up to do, separation was the best way to accomplish that, he thought.

"We'll miss you, Meowth." Jessie said.

"I'll miss you. Take care of yourself." James added. He shook Meowth's paw and waved as the Pokémon took off down the road.

"Goodbye, Meowth!" Jessie exclaimed as loud as she could down the road and waved goodbye to their feline friend. She would miss him, but part of her did want to get on with her life with James as well. Team Rocket was slowly becoming a thing of the past. Perhaps this was for the best, after all.
Jessie was starting to even enjoy the thought of putting their Team Rocket days to rest. She could live like a normal girl, something she's wanted for a long time.

James guided Jessie back inside. He closed the door quietly behind him and sat down on the couch.

"How are you feeling this morning?" James asked Jessie. "Sorry the morning ended up being so hectic." He put his hand behind his head in embarrassment.

"I'm kind of sad to see Meowth go for some reason." She said. "But, maybe its time he got on with his life as well." She turned to face him. "He is still a Pokémon after all, he's not a human; we sometimes forget that part, don't we?"

"Yes, I suppose that's true." He held her hand in his. "I guess I just really want to get to the part where we spend our lives together." James walked over and put an arm around her. "Want to start planning a date?" he asked.
"Okay." She thought for a moment. "Let's just get married once all the arrangements have been made." She wanted her wedding day to be perfect. It was every girls dream after all.

"That's sounds good." James looked at the calendar. "I'll have to get my mother started on it straight away." He smiled his goofy smile that she remembered so well.
