Chapter 1
Tokyo, Japan, Year 2015
Emiri Kimiya stood at the counter of Yamaki Bookstore, ready to pay for what she could buy, and steal what she couldn't buy. She reached into the pocket of her bag to see if she had the money. "5,000 yen..." she whispered. Her heart was pounding so loudly, she could hear it. Stealing doujinshi? Was that her motivation? Was it worth loosing trust from the people she knew? Would she get expelled from school before she could finish 4th grade? Emiri closed her eyes. She felt drips of sweat fall down from her face. Emiri was petrified, she could only imagine her fate ahead.
She grabbed the books very tightly. "The store's not crowded today, so I have a better chance of escaping before I get caught," she thought. Just two more people were in the line before her. "Just two more people, then I'm done for..." She whispered quietly. Emiri closed her eyes tightly and thought, "If only I could just leave now....but I can't..." Emiri squeezed her eyes shut as tight as possible, "I want to be good, I try to be good..why can't I be good?" She opened her eyes just enough to see the line, some people were behind her, but only one person was now in front of her.
Emiri was shaking nervously, and she closed her eyes again. She imagined all the horible things that could happen to her. She shook nervously, then, she felt a hand tap her shoulder. "Aiiiiiiieeee I DIDN'T DO IT!!" she cried. "Uh..sorry, but, you've been first in the line for awhile, are you paying?"
"No-erm, I mean yes YES! Yes, I am paying!" Emiri laughed nervously. She handed the lady all the mangas, 7 of them. "Wow, you must like mangas!" she said. "He he, uh, yeah." Emiri said. The clerk scanned sevreal of the mangas and then stopped. "Um..."she said. "Y-y-yeah?" Emiri asked, very scared now. Emiri knew exactly what the question would be, and she felt like crying. "Um...I was just asking, maybe you made a mistake when buying these...... but, you seemed to buy the 2nd book of this series, not the first one." she said. "Oh? N-no! The first book is at the bottom of the stack! Sorry I confused you!" Emiri answered. "I thought for sure she was gonna-" "Yes, um, sorry for disturbing your mumbling, but how old are you?" the clerk asked. "Um...um...well, actually, I'm t-t-ten......" Emiri cried. "TEN? Are you serious? Then, I shouldn't let you buy all these doujinshis-"
"N-no! I'm buying them as an errand! You see, my um, uh, grandma's in the hospital! And My family is celebrating my three big brothers' 23rd birthday! And since my parents are in the hospital with my grandma, I have to do all the errands!" Emiri lied. "Nice try I- HEY! WHERE the heck are you going?!" She yelled. Emiri had run off with all of the books as fast as she could. "I-I gotta get outta here" Emiri yelled. She ran across the street swiftly, not aware she was being watched. She ran faster when she could hear swift footsteps behind her. Emiri turned a corner into an alley, with the clerk still following behind. Emiri turned a sharp corner and found other ways out. She kept running, then, she realized she was alone. She sat down for a minute and then got back up, she didn't move, though, because she was so tired. Emiri stood quiet and still, until she heard steps behind her, then, she ran out of the alley, past a crowd of people and she kept her eyes squeezed shut, until she slammed into a car. Emiri fell to the ground and bled.
The driver pushed the car door open and ran to Emiri. "HEY! Can you hear me?!" He yelled. Emiri was motionless. A figure stood above her and whispered, "You are the only one...." and a small bug-like animal ran away from her.
{"Is she fully possessed yet?"
"No, it escaped from her, we have to try again......"}
Emiri opened her eyes. She looked around to see that she was in the hospital, and the clerk was glaring at her. "Huh? Wh-wh-what happened?" She asked, dizzy and tired. "Hmph, you slammed into a car when you bought all of those doujinshis that you knew, specificly, you weren't supposed to buy, so I chased ya` down, and now you're here waiting for your parents," the clerk explained. "I did?" Emiri asked, puzzled, "My parents? I don't know where they are. I think they're dead...." "Yeah, that's what we mean, you're goin' home with a different family," The clerk growled. Emiri closed her eyes, trying to remember what had happened to her.
{"She can't see us."
"Good, we'll get back to the mission.."}
Emiri heard a soft voice, "Emiri....open your eyes...you will accept a responsibility beyond belief soon..."
"What do you mean?" Emiri tried to say, but she couldn't.
{"She's getting stronger than before! We have to take action!"
"Be paitent, my friend, we'll get her..."}
Emiri groaned and tossed over," When, will...they be..here?" "They are here," the clerk said. Emiri sat up, and she could feel her arms hurting very badly. Emiri was crying now, she was hurting so much. Two people walked into the room. "W-who are you?" Emiri asked. "We're your parents," The lady said.
Emiri lay back down and closed her eyes, she fell asleep again. "Emiri, It is I...you have just hours left before...the change..You don't have wounds anymore, you're fine, you will see me soon." A voice said.
Emiri woke up the next morning. She lept out of her bed and looked around. "So, where's Mom?" Emiri said aloud. "Not here. I"m sorry, my name's Etsumi. I am supposed to take care of you. But it seems like you're fine." Etsumi said. "Oh! Hi! I'm Emiri, I wanna go outside!" She said. "Oh, well, I'm not sure, you have to be able to move around first." "But I'm fine!! See? I'll start running!" Emiri complained. She ran around her room like nothing had happened. "I'm fine," Emiri said. "Hnnn, you can go outside, but if you run into another car-" "I won't!" Emiri laughed, "Um, how do I get outside? This house is really big..."
