Cool. I've never traded online so I'm not sure how this works or what to do next…

You basically only have to press Y (or go to a Pokecenter) and select the trade room, set a password and you're all done.

Ok walk in press y set the password then give you the password to trade?

If you choose to go to a Pokecenter, you'll have to go to the lower floor and talk to the lady on the left. The Y button is a shortcut for this that works in the overworld outside of buildings. Then we both enter the same password and can interact in the same room.
Keep in mind you'll need a Switch Online membership.

Nope. The timing doesn't matter as long as the password matches.
