Trading from previous generations?

Somewhere I read that you could trade from G/S to new generation, but now i'm reading that you can't. If this is true, is there a way I could just buy either FR or LG n either HG or SS n still get all the pokemon. I just want to figure out a way to get all pokemon on B/W.

You cannot trade from Gameboy/GBC (RBY GSC) games to GBA games. You can, however, do a one way transfer from GBA games (FRLG, RSE) to 4th gen DS games (DPPt, HGSS) using the Original DS or DS Lite's dual slot feature. From there you can use any two DS systems and transfer the Pokémon from a 4th gen game to a 5th gen game.

Using a combination of Pokémon Platinum, Pokémon HG or SS, and Black or White, you should be able to get most of the 649 Pokémon. The rest you can get through GTS, GTS negotiations, and online trading.
