My friend and I were tossing around ideas the other day for ROM hacking and we got to talking about a hack where instead of using Pokemon to fight, you would use the trainers themselves - Aroma Ladies, Bug Catchers, Dragon Tamers - all of them could be given their own typing and move sets to make them more unique. However, we were having trouble thinking of where exactly to go plot-wise. I suggested keeping the FireRed or Emerald base plot and just adding in a few additional areas - similar to Moemon, for those that have played. My friend suggested just a giant (like, the entire continent), massive city for players to explore, with different districts and areas opening up as you beat the gym leaders/etc.
We had a couple other minor things (like changing the evolution stones to more human-based items, i.e. leaf stone = salad, fire stone = steak, thunder stone = cellphone, etc.) that could help round it out a bit but we wanted to get the plot settled before starting.
Any thoughts, suggestions, etc? I could go into more detail but I wasn't sure how much was needed. Also, has this idea been done before, aside from Moemon/Touhoumon? I've played both and liked them, and that's kind of where this idea stemmed from, but I wasn't sure if there was already a rom hack out there like this.
