Transfering Pokemon from older games

I've decided that I'm going to purchase a Pokemon game from each generation that I don't already have (2,4,5). I know there isn't really a way to transfer Pokemon from gen 2 to the newer games, but I'd like to know how I transfer Pokemon from gen 4 and 5 to 6/7. Do I need both Pokemon black/white 1 and 2, or just one or the other? If someone could let me know exactly how this works it would be much appreciated, thanks.

Also I'm pretty sure you can't, but would it be possible to trade Pokemon from gen 6 and 7?

To the best of my knowledge, you would need two DS systems to transfer Pokemon from Gen 4 to Gen 5, and you would need to visit the Poke Transfer Lab in Route 15 in your Gen V game and then select "DS Download Play" from the home menu. At that point, you would select the Pokemon you would want to transfer from Gen IV to Gen V. Keep in mind you would have to deposit your Gen IV Pokemon into your PC, though.

For transporting Gen V to Gen VI, you would need the Poketransporter. For Gen VI and VII, you would be fine with transferring with Pokemon Bank.

That being said, I am highly certain Pokemon Bank would be compatible with Gen VII, so you don't have to worry about that.

That seems quite inconvenient, if that's the case I think I'll just go with heart gold and not transfer anything forward.
