So I'm having troubles with changing an event on the Ecruteak city map in Pokemon Gold. The idea is to have a boulder blocking the way to the gym, so the player has to get strength before they can fight him.

I changed the person's script to 0C 0F, which is the correct script for strenght boulders. I even edited it with a hex editor. I went and changed a sprite in the sprite bank to pic 90 (for boulders), and set the person's pic to it. Everything seems fine.

However, when I load the ROM in my emulator, I can get it to use strength, but the boulder won't move. Instead, it moves around another person (whom I'm trying to change into a rock smash rock).

I have tried EVERYTHING and spent hours searching EVERYWHERE on google, on the forums, and on Youtube, but I just am not getting any answers. I've even posted a few questions on here, but no one seems to be able to help me.

I think I know what the issue is, but i don't know where to find the hex data or how to interpret it. It seems like it would be so simple, but it's just not working. I'm at my wit's end. This is my final attempt to get an answer from these forums.

This is my final attempt to get an answer from these forums.

I've never hacked GSC much, but since you're saying another person is moving instead, make sure the "Flag Index" is unique, and that the "Flag Bit" isn't the same as any other event in the map except maybe other boulders.

I really don't know if this will help, not many people hack first or second generation pokémon games so it's hard to get help in these forums. If I were you I would check out Gold hacks that are still active and ask their creators if they could answer your questions.
