Type colors you would change

If you could change any of the type colors in the main Pokémon games, what colors would you change?

I would change Fire from orange to red. The TCG and Pokémon Stadium has used Red for Fire well before the main games used orange, and even Pokémon Mystery Dungeon seems to agree, since Fire-types prefer Red Gummis. Plus, red is normally the first color that comes to mind when thinking of fire.

For Normal, I would change it from the tan color to white, since white represents plainness.

For Dark, I would change it from the dark brown color into black, since black represents total darkness.

I would change Fighting from red to maroon, to distinguish it from Fire.

    I would make Dragon orange.

I would change Psychic from pink to purple per the TCG.

I would change Poison from purple to pink per Mystery Dungeon and to distinguish from Psychic.

I would change Rock from brown to gray per Mystery Dungeon as well as gray being the color most associated with rocks in the real world.

    What would you change?

When you look at a fire, it usually isn't red. It's usually orange. For the sake of PMD, I guess they did that, but that doesn't mean the main games should conform to it. Besides, it's already a red-orange color. I think that's good enough.

For Normal, I would change it from the tan color to white, since white represents plainness.

It's already a silver color, which is close enough to white. And Normal types aren't totally plain, so they deserve the silver I think.

For Dark, I would change it from the dark brown color into black, since black represents total darkness.

Um. It looks pretty black to me, lol.

I would change Fighting from red to maroon, to distinguish it from Fire.

That looks like red to you? Looks more like a mahogany, which is a shade of brown.

    I would make Dragon orange.

Why? Dragons are a royal purple color because dragons are quite regal. Orange doesn't suit them at all.

I would change Psychic from pink to purple per the TCG.

I would change Poison from purple to pink per Mystery Dungeon and to distinguish from Psychic.

Can't always match the TCG. Learned that at a young age. Something about Purple seems sticky and toxic, where pink is a purer color, like a pure mind being able to use the psychic powers that the type's color represents.

I would change Rock from brown to gray per Mystery Dungeon as well as gray being the color most associated with rocks in the real world.

Then it would be the same as steel.

That all being said, I don't want any of them to change. They've been that way for so long now, it'd probably be confusing to change them at this point in the series. Plus, the color bars have the type listed over them. So unless someone has to identify everything by color and can't read, then I think they're fine the way they are.

Though some of these colors also depend on where you're looking. If you look at Serebii, Fighting is more brown, and Bulbapedia looks red. Then you also have to take into account that it's like when some people look at something and see one color, and someone else sees, well, another. Common example is certain pinks/purples. Is it a light shade of purple or a dark pink? Depends on your perception.

Fire can actually be any color, for example natural gas produces a blue flame. Copper compounds will produce a green flame. However, red is the color that has been traditionally associated with fire when concerning classical elements. Also, it seems quite contradictary they would name a game FireRed when the color for Fire in the games is orange.

Also, to differentiate between Rock and Steel, Steel would be a more silvery gray, while Rock would be a darker gray. PMD already does this, where Rock types like Gray Gummis, while Steel types like Silver Gummis.

Not necessarily, as the original game was RED, and it was a remake. So it's not really contradictory.

But Poison to Pink? Really? Poison? I think that all of the type colours are fine as they are imo.

The colors actually did get an upgrade in BW. If you look at the block now, like I said, it's more of an red-orange, which will suffice. FireRed is a remake of Red, which during that time, didn't have color indicators for each type. So using the name of the remake isn't totally viable. It's not like the name of the game has anything to do with what color represents the type. It was more of what the mascot represented, and that was fire, since the mascot for Red and FireRed was Charizard. And I know fire can be any color, but by that logic, they could make the fire type represented by blue or green if they really wanted.

So it's technically not orange anymore. There's much more red in the latter than the former.

Yeah, but like I said, you can't expect main games and spin off games to conform. The developers for the spin offs aren't the same as who develops the main games, so I doubt the producers of the main games, which reel in the most dough, are going to take from the spin offs from lesser developers. Chunsoft does PMD, so good on their part for making the Gummi colors reflect the types more I suppose, but the main games probably aren't going to follow suit for that. Plus most Rock type Pokemon are brown anyway.

Interestingly, Orange is not one of the Pokédex color categories; orange-colored Pokémon are split between the Red and Brown color categories.

As for Poison being Pink, PMD already does it.

You can't just keep basing things off PMD though. PMD games are spin offs. They're not the main games. So if you like how they handle type colors better, then I guess just don't play the main games if it's such a big deal. Bringing in Pokedex color categories doesn't really help either. That's an entirely different topic.

I would change Rock to be a dark gray and Flying to be more silver-ish. Oh, and probably normal to be white.

I try not to nitpick about simple things like that. Even if I did though, this wouldn't be something that would concern me, as I like em the way they are.

The only colour I've never been able to fully comprehend is the Pink that goes with Psychics. I guess I wouldn't be able to suggest another colour to replace it, and Psychic itself doesn't really have a colour that springs to mind when I think of it. (If anything, it probably would be pink, given how much I now associate any Psychic phenomenon with reference to Pokemon.)

I'd make Poison a murky brownish-olive green. I'd also make Bug either a deep brown or a navy blue (Heracross! In reality, though, many beetles are this color). I think the developers did a good job overall, though.

I know they call the brain "gray matter," but they do tend to be drawn sort of pink-ish. That's probably the only reason I can think of.

I like the colors the way they are currently. Perhaps the only change I'd make is make Grass and Bug a little more differentiatable (add a tiny more yellow to Bug, perhaps), but even then it's just nit-picking.
