By season, I mean on United States TV
See, I think that the first season of Pokemon was either from Pokemon I Choose You, to that episode with the Exeggcute and many Exeggutor, a carnival and Ash's Charmander evolves into Charmeleon. For some reasons (Ie., it showing reruns on upn69 after the Executor episode and repeating itself from the first episode until kingdom come [While it was still on, I mean.].). Or, if this isn't second season, Pokemon I Choose You to all the episodes that replace the Pokerap with Pikachu's Jukebox.
And the third season (or second season if first season ends with the last episode featuring the Pokerap.) being the Orange Islands.

Also, how on earth does Damian (The abusive ex-owner of Ash's Charizard.) get to use all 100+ pokemon without having to send them to wherever he got his pokedex from (If he even has one.)? I mean, I thought the limit to Pokemon that a trainer must carry was 6.

Come to think of it, I think the Kanto saga was two seasons, but 4Kids counted it as one basically, in the way of keeping the same theme song through all of it. But Yeah, it seems like if it were all one season it would've been too long...

aaand Maybe they didn't remeber that little bit of info when they thought up that part of the episode? ...With Damien, I mean...
