I posted this in a rival gym forum, but it went unanswered there. maybe no traffic? trying this forum out...

    Hi All,
This is my first post to this forums, so please be gentle with me. :)

During the pokemon capture phase, occasionally i will see a funny looking blueish green ring on the "ground" that quickly shrinks into a point and dissapears. What is this? anybody know? I've noticed it in the past, but didn't really think about it until it happened more a few times recently.

i'm not talking about the red/orange/yellow/green ring that encircles the pokemon and shrinks to indicate "nice" "great" or "excellent".

it's different. it's on the "floor" or ground of the screen. therefore you really see an ellipse, but it's obviously a circle if you were to look down on the mon being captured.

it very seldomly occurs, that i've noticed. anecdotally i'll say i see in maybe 5% of the time.

maybe this has already been discovered/discussed, and i just missed that discussion somewhere.

Not that I've seen and I've not seen any posts covering this on the forum but I will keep a look out just in case I've not noticed because I've not been looking for it

Just touch and hold your finger on the pokeball, and wait (for awhile?).

I have also not noticed if throwing the ball after said visual effect seems to influence catch rate or break out of ball rate. or run rate.

i got more info. i just encountered a jigglypuff that did this visual effect practically every time it landed from doing a jump. whether i held down the pokeball or not. i was able to get a screenshot of it after a few attempts. i will upload prolly to a FB group and ask there, and link the pic here when that's done.

note i'm not playing with sound at all, so idk if there is a noise that accompnaies it.

That's a bit uncalled for seriously?! There are much nicer ways to say get more evidence than being insulting
I caught a Mr Mime earlier and noticed when it dodged a ball by jumping I could see a blue circle under it so I can see what you mean. Now I know what to look out for I can investigate it as well

Seems like you're looking at the GFX from a Pokémon landing after a jump.

There hasn't been any conclusive evidence regarding improved capture rates when timing a throw with a Pokémon's landing. I've tried this for a looooooong time (like two months ago) with mixed results. There were many occasions where I thought the capture rate was up when I landed a throw right after a Pokémon hits the ground after jumping.

Then again, there were also many occasions where the Pokémon broke out anyway.

What I can say is that there's no harm in trying to time the throw if you feel like you have more success doing that. It's kind of in the same vein as the whole "A+B down" thing with the original handheld games, even though we know it's a rumor as nothing in the game's code shows this mechanic.

Edit: don't try waiting if you're trying to catch something while traveling at high speeds (like riding in a moving vehicle) as rapidly stretching the gap between you and the Pokémon spawn point can increase the flee rate.

    thx jae for the post.

also great info about the distance from spawn point. i didn't know that...

also i apparently missed some flaming? oh wells.... :)
