Well with the anime 6 vol behind the manga its time for the tradtional filler arc. I ran accross this which was brought up in the latest newtype.

    Quote:
In terms of narrative, Date comments that they've 'burned through all of the manga to a certain extent' for the TV series, which commenced broadcasting at the end of 2002 in Japan. Date suggested adding a few of their own episodes. "I was thinking we'd make Naruto a bit cheerier than it has been up to now.' He's contemplating introducing a new character based on Mori no Ishimatsu-a real historical figure who lived at the end of the Edo era. The character would be one who "loved wine and women, was quick to fight and lose his temper. The show hasn't had a character like that yet, so I thought it'd be fun if a character like that got mixed up with Naruto somehow." The new character is tentatively slated to debut on TV after the theatrical release-a stand-alone original story hemled by Tensai Okamura.

Blah this filler sounds like its going to suck. As for the new character sounds like they just combined Jirayas and Narutos personalities. I think this is the worst possible place to do a filler. Since the events that happen after the Tsunade arc set up the current story arc in the manga. They should have done one after the Chuunin exam.

Personally I quite like the original stories they do that don't come from the manga, I really liked the Jump Festa episodes anyway (*Especially the waterfall one*) so I think seeing a story not told in the manga will be fun as long as the story isn't boring ^^
