Wager Battles?

Pokemon Showdown Wager Battles!

This is just an idea, nothing set in stone but how about we set up some wager battles. Between different people here on PokeCommunity. Set the rules, and then set the prize. Provided by anyone, I would love this to be a thing. Obviously to take part you would have to have a Gen VI game. Even though the battles would be done on showdown, it's just nice to actually have a prize.

There are so many tournaments that happen all over the world, it seems unfair to the ones who can't get there to enter them, so why not make it a more community based idea, organise the battles and organise a time that you're available and hey presto, you're ready.

There are so many different ways that this could be done. There could be Monotype wagers, Different Tiers. Anything that you can think of then there is a way to get it done.

Would be amazing if I could get peoples inputs to this as it'd be a nice idea to get a whole team on board for this.

So you mean wager as in put an actual Pokemon on the line? That could be pretty fun. "I call your 5 IV Bulbasaur and raise you a 6IV shiny Ditto". I don't actually have a 6IV shiny Ditto, but I'll gladly take one off someones hands, LOL.

I've grown a bit tired of the same old, same old when it comes to Smogon tiers and Battlespot. Even the new VGC 15 format has me exasperated now that Thundurus and Landorus are back and OP as ever, so anything that's a little bit different, I'm all too ready for.

I think it could be great. And have little tournaments, I often watch people do battle spot or just battle people and they really get nothing for it, What does a little number mean? People sit there for hours just laddering and at the end of the day, they have no actual representation of what it means. So that's why I came up with this idea, it would be great, it'd get people more into the idea of battling, Obviously there would still be the smogon tiers involved to make them a bit more fair.

Had a little conversation with a friend of mine and he agreed that if we were to make niche battles a thing so for example if there was a grass mono battle. Then Offer a 5IV Chespin. or Snivy etc. etc. There prizes don't have to be determined by the two people playing eachother, they could just be prizes, at least then we dont have to deal with people getting Salty about this whole thing.

Of course we can use Smogon Tiers as a form of banlist, so you won't have Mega Kang power-up punching everything to death for example in a Mono-Normal. I only brought up the smogon tier example as something that can get a bit stale after a while. Not to rag on Smogon, it's just there's only so many times you can come up against a Ferrothorn/Mega Bro core before it just wares on you.

So you can count me in on being a part of this. I might have to get to IV breeding on my Omega Ruby to have some good pokemon to put up for a wager as I've just let the game sort of sit there since finishing the Delta Episode and I don't have much on there yet. I can only speak for myself too, but I never get salty regarding anything pokemon. I'm in it to have fun, not get mad. So if I play a game and lost and have to give up a 5IV Ralts for example, I knew what I was getting into, so of course I'll do the right thing and pay up.

I think part of the reason this could be really cool is to see if people follow through with their word. A lot of people these days seem to be DCing on Battlespot or whining about 'hax' on Showdown, and a lot of people are thinking negatively about the pokemon community (generally speaking, not referring to this forum specifically). This could be a cool way of showing there are still plenty of good sports about and that there is still a friendly spirit to be found in pokemon if you look hard enough.

This if it wasn't obvious enough, I think this is a great idea and I'm happy to be of help in order to get this thing going. I have a pretty decent 4IV Modest Xerneas (the other IVs are high 20s) that I'm more than happy to offer up as a prize for a tournament for example. I never play Ubers so I'm cool to see it go to someone who'll use it more.
