Actually, I thought the ending was sidesplittingly ironic. The almighty Master Ball may have the power to catch Mewtwo in the games, but it's no match for the big mouth of a Whiscash...
I liked this episode. I just recently came back to watching new episodes of "Pok?mon" after a three-year hiatus, and this is one of my favorites of the Season 7 episodes I've seen so far. This episode tied into the games a lot - in addition to the Master Ball, it was devoted to the aspect of fishing, and it also played up the rarity of Feebas (almost impossible to find at first, but once you do, they're all over the place). And on top of all that, it had a characterization of Ash that we haven't seen in a long time - the type of kid who's a little dimwitted and tends to act without thinking, but still shows devotion and knows his strategy. Only Ash would have the determination to dive into a lake to chase after a Whiscash that stole his badge case - and this is gonna sound sadistic, but I thought the animation when Ash was drowning was excellent. In fact, all the animation in this episode was excellent, from Jessie fighting with the Feebas to Corphish Crabhammering Ash onto the rocks to Flaaffy beating the snot out of Whiscash. I can always tell which episodes are outsourced to the Team Ota studio, because they always add that little extra flair with dramatic camera angles, excellent linework, and exaggerated facial expressions. An episode that would only be made better if I could see the Japanese version.
P.S. I dunno if this was just me, but I was secretly hoping that Max would pick a Jirachi lure.
