Discuss this weeks second episode here..

I found this episode particularly touching mostly because of May. She's finally starting to discover the true essence of being a Pokemon trainer and coordinator. The part towards the end of the episode when she was about to cry was really heart-warming.

The only thing I can't stand about the episode is that Ash lost to Drew. Can't stand that guy. Ash is a way better battler than Drew... and the voice acting for him change as well. Definitely not the same person who was doing it during "Pokemon Advanced".

I agree with you on this one. This battle just really came to me as a surprise. And I can't stand him either.

On another matter, the names - "Grace", "Drew" - featured in this episode are really interesting.

Can you expand on that? I'm interested to know what you mean. :)

How coincidental can you get with a name? The little pun that the narrator does at the end of the episode is just so apposite - "'Drew' her toughest challenge yet", "'[May's] saving 'Grace'" - to the situation that May's in. That's what makes the names so interesting.

Gotcha. Yeah, I had noticed that little pun at the end of the episode as well, but didn't think much of it. :)

I still think Drew needs a serious lesson in humility. He's kind of reminding me of how Gary was in the beginning of the series. Don't worry, though. I think May is going to just totally whoop his ___ in this one...

On another note, if Ash was using Pikachu, Grass Type or not, Roselia would have been annihilated in the fight. Ash just used Taillow to emphasize the 3rd Edition Pokemon. (Seriously, Pikachu is what, Level 200 or something by now??)

It was a good episode overall, but as always, I payed more attention to Team Rocket. The "cool" Wobbuffet was the highlight of the entire episode. The beautiful Cacnea was funny too.

As far as the battle with Drew went, it just seemed out of place that Ash would lose. While I don't know how much experience Drew has, it seems that Ash has been through enough circumstances (including clashes with legendaries) that for him to lose to some cocky kid doesn't sit well.

I was also underwhelmed by May's vision of her Beautifly becomeing moreso beautiful by eating the Pokeblock. I wasn't expecting to see sparkles and shines. I really wanted charcter changes that you hear so much about in the games. It's understandable that it can't be done in the games, you're working with pretty much 2 sprites per Pokemon. But in the anime, you can always draw a Pokemon to look differently.

Perhaps it's too hard to make a pokemon's look change if they won't even reveal it's gender? That's what I'm guessing. But May still could've exaggerated like she did her Torchic's evolution back in "A Bite to Remember".
