I just got to the Elite four and sent my level 59 Charizard out against Lorelli's level 52 Dewgong. I figured my Charizard's FLAMETHROWER would KO the Dewgong in one hit but it only took off like 25% of it's HP.

what type pokemon should i use here?

Use Electric or Fighting, and isn't Dewgong a Water Type.

Dewgong is an water-ice type; ice being it's secondary group. You have a wide range of types you can use, fire, steel, firghting, rock, electric. I would just use an electric type here, it'll be most effective.

Dewgong is a Water/Ice combo so it has some significant weaknesses such as:

    Fighting
    Electric
Grass(I wouldnt recommend this as ice types are super effective to grass types)

Dewgong is an Ice-Water pokemon, plus it has the Tick Fat ability wich reduces the damage of Ice and Fire attacks to 50%, that's why your flamethrower didn't do much.

By the sounds of things, you're probably playing FR/LG. The Kanto Dex has five Ice-type Pokemon and none of them are pure Ice type.

Since Lorelei tends to use Water/Ice types, like everyone else, an Electric type would suffice. Maybe Zapdos, since it'll help you later against Bruno and his fighting types.
