I went to a concert last weekend it got me thinking, what is it that you most appreciate when you listen to music? Is the song carried for you by the quality of the artist's singing voice? Does their voice have to be strong, or beautiful or emotional? Maybe it is the beat and instrumentals you listen for more than a voice? Or perhaps what draws you in instead are good lyrics and the artist's songwriting skills? Is something else? Do you enjoy a performer who has personality and become more engaged by someone's delivery of a song on stage, sense of style and craftsmanship?
I think all of these are good qualities I appreciate, and a combination of these traits is ideal, but the songs that really stay with me the most are well-written songs that tell a story. I can put up with an artist who doesn't have the greatest voice or if the music is simple if the lyrics are really good and they paint vivid pictures with their words. That's just me, what about you? If you are doing that and have gorgeous voice too though, even better!
