    Dear PC,

I always played the game as is, and I would get competitive Pokemon off trade or edit my Pokemon. I am trying to get the hang of breeding and needed some help understanding different methods such as masuda method.

So how does one control the offsprings gender, hidden ability, its second ability (like moxie over intimidate for example) and how do I get a perfect 6IV mon? Also Say if I followed the method and got an offspring with 6IV, right gender and ability how do I keep breeding for a shiny without changing these values? Is this any different in the XY games?

The Masuda method is the best for breeding shinys, but you're going to have to hatch a LOT of eggs. On genders and IVs, gender is random, though some species have a higher chance of being one gender or the other (combee/vespiqueen is a good example of this). IVs are tricky, if you have a 6/6 pokemon holding a destiny knot breed with another 6/6 pokemon, 5 IVs are passed down, the 6th is always random, so you have a 1/32 chance of hatching another 6/6. Abilities can be passed down by males holding a certain item (I forget the name of it, it prevents pokemon from evolving when held), though I don't know about hidden abilities.

I guess I could ask this but since it's about breeding but is it true that it's best to have many Dittos so if they won't get along with what ever Pokémon it is then you will have to chance of breeding one with one of the Dittos you have? I noticed some Pokémon like Slowpoke didn't breed on Omega Ruby and Kent said that's why you need many Dittos then one will work since they have there own personality like one might be Hasty one might be Brave and others might be like Relaxed in there nature right?

Hey guys! As a fellow breeder who spends most of his time breeding perfect pokemon and working hard at getting appropriate Natures and Hidden Abilities along with Egg Moves, I would love to recommend you guys this thread.

When I first got my hands on my copy of Omega Ruby, this thread was a wonderful reference material for me, due to @VisualJae's well informed advice. I highly suggest that you guys do not post in this thread because it is a very old thread, and bumping old threads is a no-no around here, however the advice still holds true and incredibly useful, so by all means give it a good read. :)

Everything else you would ever need to know about the complications of breeding that might not be listed in @VisualJae's advice can be found on this page.

Hope this helps you guys out greatly, and welcome to the Breeders Circle!

    Edit:
Abilities can be passed down by males holding a certain item (I forget the name of it, it prevents pokemon from evolving when held), though I don't know about hidden abilities.

As nicely as I can possibly put it, you are misinformed. You are talking about the "Everstone", the Everstone does not pass down Abilities, it passes down Natures. Passing down abilities is always a chance based gamble in breeding, so when looking for a particular ability the best you can do is cross your fingers and hope for the best. However, the chance of recieving a hidden ability is increased so long as one of the parents has the hidden ability.

    @DallasPikachu
You actually do not need multiple dittos based on breeding compatability. A ditto will breed with anything, it's not picky at all. Here is a list of what the Day Care person means when saying how much pokemon like each other.

    • Same species with different ID numbers:
Chance of getting an egg; 70% | Statement; "The two seem to get along very well!"
    • Same species with same ID numbers:
Chance of getting an egg; 50% | Statement; "The two seem to get along"
    • Different species with different ID numbers:
Chance of getting an egg; 50% | Statement; "The two seem to get along"
    • Different species with same ID numbers:
Chance of getting an egg; 20% | Statement; "The two don't seem to like each other"
    • Different Egg Groups:
Chance of getting an egg; 0% | Statement; "The two prefer to play with other Pokémon more than with each other."
