So yeah... What pokemon from R/S/E will still be of use in D/P battles? With WiFi and all, Player vs Player battles will be all the more common... what pokemon are good enough to stick around and make a difference?

Mainly because i want to know what to train in Emerald while I wait... but also to decide if i should get a DS and D/P.

I think Salamence will stick around, along with Tyranitar and a couple others, but I'm not too experienced with player battles or with D/P pokemon to know...

Who do you think will still stay important in PvP?

    most of them ._.

r/s/e really had some of the best pokemon. they may not be instant classics like your charizard or your dragonite or what have you, but only very few pokemon from R/S/E were useless.

well, at least i'll use any poke that is in some least bit decent.

I would use some of them like all of my ghost type Pokemon, Venusaur, Marowak, Donphan, Zapdos, Swampert and Blaziken. But those are the Pokemon that I would use the most. Also I will try to use my other Pokemon

    :t354:~*!*~Queen Boo~*!*~

Basic pokemon like Pidgey and Pikachu, I think. I hope they use all of them, but on seperate games.

Salamence will be as common as it's now. Especially with Dragon Claw, now being a Physical attack. That's the only one I can think of right now, but this Physical/Special Split will make many Pokémon useless, like Alakazam, who will be unable to use the punches now.

Yeah, the change hurts pokemon, and helps them too.
You have to look into moves a lot more now, its no longer "ok good, its water." you have to check, and pokemon from R/S/E can't go directly into the other game, sometimes you might need to change some moves because of that attack change.

but dont forget alakazam can use shadow ball and hyper beam effectively now now that they are classed as special.

oh yeah, i sense hyper beam being SO abused when it shouldn't be =/

Probabily, the Legendary and the Uber ones...xD

by doing certanin things with your other GBA games (such as putting them in the GBA slot on the DS) you can get all the pokemon but 48 of them. (source serebii.net)

Only 48? Thats good. Nice to know that you cant just import a billion pokemon and pwn on wifi instantly. I got a pretty bad feeling about wifi in Diamond and Pearl. Everybody is probably gonna be cheap and some hackers might steal your pokemon when you agree to a trade.

I think that the pokemon that were good in R/S/E will still be good in D/P. And if you agree to trade your pokemon with someone, atleast let it be someone from here, or a good friend. I mean come on, if you trade some stranger your level 50 Abra-Kadabra, and they give you a level 20 geodude, your gonna get ripped off.

Unnecessary...and untrue. Pal Park lets you transfer ALL of them, last I heard.

On-topic with the off-topicness: Yeah, we probably should stick with trading with people we know...but how would we be able to tell if the other person's from here if we can't trade FCs here? How would you even be sure to connect?

Note to any higher-up that comes along: Begin considering allowing the trade of Friend Codes once D/P reach the States.

Are you like unable to decline a trade...? How would you get ripped off, just say no. I really doubt game freak is dumb enough to not have a "no." for the trading...

Anyway, i think a fair bit will still be used, but I wonder who will be replaced by a D/P guy...

blissey will now be used even more in competitive now because of the phys/spec split. like samson said i agree that hyper beam will be added to pokemon that wouldnt have been able to use it effectively before but will also be deleted in others that had been able to use it.... (eg. dodrio)
