I've been curious as to which pokemon types can be considered the "best" for a while now. Due to the fact that every single Pokemon Type has their strengths and weaknesses, there is no definate "best type." I've heard many a theory as how to determine the "best" types, and all of them are pretty dense.
Steel Types are a natural candidate for the top of the "best type" mountain, being weak to only 3 types, neutral toward 2, and resistant to the remaining12. Fighting and Ground Types can be cited for being able to trump more types than the others, while still maintaining good resistances. On another note, Dragons could also be considered one of the "best" even though the only type advantage it has is against it's own type.It compensates by only being resisted by the Steel Type, and Having only 2 weaknesses, while boasting 4 resistances.
Psychic comes to mind when the average Types are considered, because It's fairly balenced. Ice Types can also be placed here for both it's weaknesses towards some of the most common types in competitive battle, and for trumping other common types in the same metgame...Sadly enough it only has one resistance.The Rock Type is safely placed in this slot too, with a pretty modest mix of resistances, weakness, and type advantages.
The bottom of the barral is definately Poison, despite having the best lingering effect. Grass Types are pretty low too, having the dubious distinction of posessing the least type advantages (7 types resist it) I wouldn't place Normal in this category fully, despite the fact it has no type advantages whatsoever (barring the negation of Ghost Type moves) because they usually have the tools they need to make an impact in battles.
These are just a few examples that I feel are good. I diddn't bother going through all the types because that would take too long. But I would like other people's opinions on what they feel the "best types" could be. Not what their favorite type is, but what types are the most beneficial in battling. Please don't use refference to actual Pokemon. This is soley on types.
