When You First Started Playing Pokemon Did You Use The Common Ones?

The first time you ever played Pokemon did you catch and raise common ones like Rattata or Bidoof?

When I first played Pokemon I used the first Pokemon I could catch.
My team was of a Pikachu, Rattata, Nidoran(F), Zubat, Seel, and Magmar.
They are turned into quite a powerful bunch. I mean, if my Zubat lasted the first three battles against the Elite Four I must of been doing something right. heehee~

I started on Gold and I'm pretty sure I did have a team of the usual pokemon. I think it was something like Cyndaquil, Pidgey, Caterpie, Geodude, etc.

Yeah. I'm sure most of us did. We just caught the first Pokemon we saw, and that was our team. I can't remember what mine was though :/

I was also victim to raising my starter to level 100, and having everything else under level 30.

I did.

I first caught a Starly in Pearl, didn't care about Bidoof much.

Then, my Staraptor ended up being the strongest of all of my Pokemon. :)

I started off with yellow. I had Pikachu, Vileplume, Wigglytuff, Dewgong, Ninetails, and Charizard

I do it always. Just catch Pidgey from the start and it's with me from start to end. I always have my starter with me, then bird that you can catch from the start (usually Pidgey and Starly), then those four others pokémon that are with me just to evolve. I like evolving pokémons and normally don't catch evolved pokémon. I throw them to boxes when they have evolved and when I am at 6th or 7th gym I start to have those with me so they get some levels to win Elite Four and the Champion.

I actually can't remember what my team was on my very first Blue playthrough...It must've been something like:
Blastoise
Pidgeot
Beedrill
Butterfree
Raticate
Graveler

the first time...I had a Blastoise, Pidgeot and Raticate by the end, but I can't remember the others.

When I was just a wee lil' young'n playing Yellow, I caught everything in sight - no exceptions. My first team basically consisted of a Pikachu, two Pidgeys, a Caterpie, Nidoran(M), and a Weedle.

And the first gym was hard to get through until I found out about the miracle known as Mankey. D:

I was really little when I got Yellow, but I do remember having Pikachu, Caterpie, Metapod, and Pidgey, however, I never got past Brock and then I lost the game. We won't count that. When I got back into the handhelds, it was in Sapphire version, and I used Blaziken, Gardevoir, Pelipper, Crobat, Bellosom, Ludicolo, and other stuff. It wasn't a straight team, it was just...whatever I felt like carrying around with me. Not...too common. The basic Pokemon are common, but they're so common that people chose not to use them and didn't get to the final stages, so that makes them uncommon. My head's spinning after that...

I don't tend to use the most common ones so much as my favourites.

I just used what looked cool, so sometimes, but not always. At the beginning I did, but as more started to show up, I added the cool ones to my team.

I would catch Pidgeys without fail. Always, it was like some sort of sickness.

When I got Pokemon Red, for some reason I collected Pidgey's. I was so little so I didn't really know what I was doing, I had boxes and boxes of Pidgey's. My whole team was Pigeot's, except for my starter. But then when I got Leafgreen, I decided to continue my collection of Pidgey's.. But I only had one on my team this time lol

I was actually very paticular. I mean I used Pidgey and stuff... But was always hell bent on catching a Pikachu in Viridian forest. Lol. Raichu was the bomb in red and blue.

When I started off with Yellow in 99, one of my favorite original teams was:

Pikachu - Raticate - Primeape - Butterfree - Pidgeotto - Jigglypuff

Yeah, my team was pretty much full before battling Brock.

I just used whatever was the strongest or looked the coolest. I rarely used common pokemon, and instaid used other pokemon.

I honestly can't remember my G/S days, but in Pearl, I caught a Shinx and have used my Luxray regularly in battle up until a while ago. That's about it; I have Bidoofs and Starlys sitting in my boxes, unevolved forever :')

back when i first got yellow i was addicted to making things evolve asap. so i had a level 10 nidoking, so what :P hahaha. yeah i think i pretty much had: pikachu, pidgey, wigglytuff, nidoking, poliwrath and beedrill. until i found vulpix, then bye bye beedrill :P
