Either way, go to Giant Chasm (just above Lacunosa Town), and wal into the cave (there's a bit of a maze inside but it's somewhat straightforward with surf). Once you get through the cave you'll see an opening - that's where Ditto will be hiding, in the grass around there. Remember to bring a weak Pokemon to transform into, though, and it'll make it a lot easier for you. Good luck!
