There is no such thing as a perfect team. No Pokémon party can ever be perfect because it'll have its own flaws. Even though you can't really make a perfect team, you can make a powerful yet decent one. This is something that doesn't take months to master, its actually quite easy.

    Starting

The first thing you want to do is to make sure that your party has a starter Pokémon. They have impressive move pools and rank high in stats. It is not necessary to have a starter in your team but it is recommended.

It is also not as necessary to have a legendary Pokémon in your party in order to make it powerful. What you should concentrate on is deciding on if a starter Pokémon in your team is a good choice or a bad move.

    Types

A good team is composed of different types. With different types in your party, any challenge and obstacle is basically a piece a cake due to the fact that most Pokémon will have difficulty bringing your team down. A good example of a team with different types is the party of you're rival in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. In his team, he has a Water, Fire, Grass, Rock, Psychic and Flying-type Pokémon.

If you want to make a team with different types, then watch closely. The first kinds of Pokémon you have should be Fire, Grass and Water-type. With a Fire Pokémon, you can vanquish Bug, Grass, and Ice types. With a Water Pokémon, conquering Ground, Rock, and Fire Pokémon shouldn't be a problem and with a Grass Pokémon in your party, overcoming Water Pokémon will be easy. With those three types, you can already triumph seven out of seventeen types, most of which are common in areas.

The next type in your team could be a Fighting-type Pokémon. Fighting Pokémon promise attacks that can take down Ice, Rock and Steel types. You could consider your fighter as the offensive part of your team since their max attack stats are always higher than others. Now here's the hard part. You have to choose one of three kinds. They are Dark, Psychic and Ghost. The one I would prefer is Dark since it can trounce Ghost and Psychic Pokémon. If your not fond of those three types then try a Bug-type Pokémon. It can thrash all three.

The last Pokémon's type is kind of optional. Electrics are good but can only greatly affect Flying types while Flying types are only a threat to Bug and Grass Pokémon. Steel types are capable of damaging Rock types but it only serves for one type. On the other hand, Dragon-type Pokémon can resist most types.

Try experimenting with different kinds of Pokémon which can help find your favorite types.

    One type Only

Although it is unusual some trainers will prefer to have Pokémon with the same type. This is not always a good team because it decreases the ability to supper effect other types. However, if you plan to do this then choose Pokémon of the particular type that you want and check its move pool. Some Pokémon of one type can learn attacks of other types. for instance, Dialga can learn Flamethrower without Fire-type characteristics.

Another thing that you can do is to choose Pokémon of the type you desire with a second type. For example, if you create a Water-type team, you'll want to be defended from Electric-types for sure. So why not pick a Swampert to be in you're party? Its a starter and it is part Ground-type thus allowing it to walk all over your opponents Electric Pokémon with ground moves such as Earthquake.

In a team like the one described, you can teach moves that present great combat in battle. Going back to the Water-type team, teach a Pokémon icy moves like Ice Beam (which most Water-types can learn) to fend off Grass types that can do a great deal of damage to your party.

    In the field

A thing you have to be aware of in order to make your party close to perfect as possible is to have your Pokémon learn moves that are helpful in areas. In a situation likewise, teaching a Pokémon how to surf is necessary to cross an ocean and/or small body of water. What you should keep in mind is that the most important HM moves are Cut, Strength, Fly and Surf. You will need these abilities in various times of your adventure. The other HMs are important but are not needed as assistance that commonly.

    Leveling up

The finial part of making an awesome team is the levels your Pokémon range from. the levels of you're Pokémon don't have to be equal but balanced so that you're chances of victory in battle are balanced as well. Say that you have a lv. 45 Gabite. The level range of your Pokémon would be best if they range from lv. 40 - 50.

Always train and treat your Pokémon equal. Therefore, you'll have great traveling companions and they'll reward you with true triumph. Believe me, you'll be surprise at what Pokémon can do for you when you care about each other.

I hope that this guide can help making a good team possible for you and friends.
