I'm leaning a bit more towards emerald because I never did play any 3rd gen games only 1st gen red and 2nd gen crystal( and of course 4th gen diamond right now).
lol. I guess the logical thing would be to play a gen I don't have, 3rd!
So I will buy Emerald after school tomorrow because I have a 45 minute walk to school, might as well get a new game to keep me motivated.
Thanks a lot! :)
ShurikenZ-Additional question. Why give Ruby and Sapphire a lower score than Emerald? Aren't they very similar or am I just mixing games up?
Pfft, the people who replied didn't really give you a good comparison between the games.
Ruby/Sapphire: The game play is the notch above Gold and Sliver's. It takes the ideas from the previous generation, and shot them with a healthy does crack. New features such as Pokeblocks, Natures, and Special Abilities had a refreshing take on the Pokemon battles. This game had - I say had, because now it doesn't- very great graphics for an RPG on the GBA. Lush, beautiful colors and neat on screen effects. When it rains, you can see your own reflection in the puddles on the grounds, and when it's sunny, the screen turns bright.
The Pokemon contests serves as a great distraction from the main quest, but can get repetitive very quickly. It's a great challenge to win your place in the hall of fame once, but after that there isn't much else you can do than playing one with your friend. There isn't much to do after beating the Elite Four which is a big let down, but there are still things to keep you playing this game.
I wouldn't recommend this version. 7.5/10
Emerald: Battle Frontier, Rayquazas, and battle Tents oh my! In my opinion, Emerald has way too many new additions. Too much new things no one cares about, and
way too many Legendaries to catch. I have no idea what Game freak were thinking when they made this monster of a game. But that is really the only thing I have to complain about.
The graphics in Emerald are much better than Ruby and Sapphire's and now Game Freak bought back the animated sprites from Crystal, but the animations themselves are horrible. The characters do not pose has they did in Crystal, instead they short of wriggle on screen in a choppy two frame animation. It just looks sloppy and kind of drew me out of the battles.
However, there are some impressive additions to the game such has the ability to pass on abilities through breeding. You can now get a Johto starter from Prof. Birch after completing your Hoenn dex. There new caves, and you can catch way more Johto and Kanto Pokemon. And the Mystery Gift is back along with Wireless Battling. The replay value is very high on this one, but all the added features are overwhelming. 8.5/10
Fire Red/ Leaf Green: Who ever said playing a remake was "obsolete" obviously does not know what they are talking about. Obsolete would be playing the
original game. The hour system in Ruby and Sapphire was not a big part of game due to fact that there wasn't a day and night system. And there are berries in Fire Red and Leaf Green and you can steal them off of wild Pokemon or go to the Berry Forest.
This is why you shouldn't listen to people, PrinceSushi. =)
The first thing you will notice about Fire Red and Leaf green is the amazing graphics. They are breath taking amazing, and really gives you an idea on what Diamond and Peal should look like. The overworld sprites and buildings almost take on this faux-3D effect. Not to mention the updates are some of our favorite Trainer Classes.
The replay value is high on this on as well. Now you can on to the Sevii islands where you can catch Johto Pokemon, but not Hoenn.
Fire Red and Leaf Green will give you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside as you play. I'd rather feel nostalgic then overwhelmed while playing a game. If I had a choice of playing Emerald or Fire Red and Leaf Green, I'd play Fire Red and Leaf Green. 9/10
Well, there you go.
