this question has lingered through my mind for some time now...

Why is it that the trivia sections doesn't add to your total post count?

I think it would be a great idea to have it so it will, to encourage more people to participate... (more enthusiasm goes to the Pokemon Trivia for this change, because this is a Pokemon related forum or website)

Because post count is generally associated with knowledge of the forum, and is the sign of a contributing member to the forums (for the most part). The posts in Other Trivia and Pokemon Trivia are just games, the contribution to the forum as a whole is negligible in that section.

I don't think it's set to change any time soon.

It doesn't have a post count because it is quite easy to post quite a lot of posts at a very fast rate in the trivia sections. The rule is in place so that members do not abuse the games to increase their post count rather than posting there to have fun or because they enjoy posting in this section. There are some benefits of having a lot of posts, such as getting a blog at 5,000, and if post count was enabled in the trivia sections it would allow members to easily increase their post count.

It is also there to ensure members don't spam too much, since it is quite easy to do in the trivia sections. Binary Peaches and Netto Azure may be able to answer this better than me, but the bottom line from what I can see is that having the rule in place, prevents members posting there for the sole reason of increasing their post count and so as to avoid related spam posts.

    Is that so?

I always thought that the reason the post count froze in those sections was to stop post count addicts from spamming and increasing their post count easily. (also for preventing easy access to blogs, I guess?)

    EDIT: Gavininja'd

How did I know you made this thread before I even got here? People would just spam up both the trivia sections if the post count actually counted in there and would use it to get a high post count and feel fabulous about themselves. It's best to just leave it alone. Plus, if you wanna participate in Pokemon related threads and discussions, there's always the lovely Pokemon General that Miss Toujours here mods.

well the reason why it kinda concerns me is...

I think that when you see the bold words saying it doesn't count towards your total post... is shying people away... it shied me away for a long time until I saw "Corrupt A Wish [Pokemon Edition]" as the last post... I love Corrupt A Wish games!!! I am involved in a page version on Facebook as well.... and this one here being Pokemon edition makes it more of a reason to post...

Like I said, I think it may be shying people away...

I don't think it shies people away, in fact when I first came to the forums, I spent most of my time at Pokemon Trivia. Having it in bold letters lets potential spammers know not to even try spamming there.

Pokemon Trivia isn't even close to inactive though. I mean, in the past 24 hours it's had 13 posts, while PGen has had 11 so it's not like it's hurting for posts.

No one on the staff is going to support enabling post count in --essentially-- a spam forum just because people shy away from games because of the fact that post count is disabled. Do people deserve a +1 post count because they know how to count?

How is this making people shy away? Post counts are not in place in Trade Corner so does that make people less inclined to Trade? Just because there is no post count does not detract from game play. If you love playing the games you will play them regardless of there is postcount or not. If people are more concerned about their post count then the love of the game they are not playing for the right reasons.

It's actually quite common for most forums to disable he postcount for Trivia/forum games sections. From all the forums I've been to in the past, there is more majority forums that disable the postcount rather than enable it. As for shying people away, I'm pretty sure most of the members play on the Trivia sections for the fun in playing. If postcount was enabled then more people would post just so they can get a better postcount, not for fun in playing Trivia

This. If post count was enabled, then people would just be coming to the Trivia sections just so they can gain post count rather than enjoy the games to their fullest extent, which would be the opposite of what the trivia sections are supposed to be. I personally don't really approve of how Toujours described it, but the trivia sections is to you can relax from your normal postings in other sections. If Post count were to be enabled in the Trivia sections, I would honestly quit as a mod. I enjoy the trivia sections just how they are, and the idea of adding post count destroys it, in my honest opinion.

Also justinrpg, I see you in the Pokemon Trivia boards all the time. Just how long were you exactly "shying away" from the board.

being that I signed up in Feb, became pretty active in mid-late Mar, I didn't start posting in the trivia section until probably mid-late July, so, pretty much the first half of my time being on PC... like I said it was all thanks to Corrupt A Wish [Pokemon Edition] my post count was in the 70s before I started in the trivia section

Edit: and I might want to add, around end of August I started copying and Pasting my wishes and the corrupted result to MSWord because I like it so much now...

Look, JustinRPG, it will never happen for the reasons above.
Even if, somehow, the vote was brought to the staff boards, I don't think any staff member would actually vote 'yes'.

I don't see any point in the continued discussion, no matter how many points you think of JustinRPG.

Okay. I myself wasn't active in any of the Trivia sections until a little after a long hiatus. I asked the question to bring up this point. People may not want to really play games, but it's not just because of the fact that there are no post count. I know I certainly didn't post in the Trivia sections because there wasn't post count, because in every other forum I've gone to the Trivia/Game/whatever forum also didn't have a post count either. To me, it seemed more natural for the game section to have none.

It's basically what Fabio said: nothing you say is really going to matter, because none of the mods (I certainly don't agree) will agree to enabling post count. The trivia sections are fine as is.

I am not questioning you at all, I just was wondering... I am fine that it's the way it is... I am just used to forums with on topic stuff (in this case Pokemon) do count and other stuff (off topic) such as computers and the literature usually do not count...

actually this is the first forum I been to that EVEN had a trivia section... so I am unaware that others are that way.... most forums I go to are divided on on topic and off topic subjects as far as what counts

that's the only reason why I brought it up.... just what I'm used to...

like I said, I am fine the way it is

    Okay Justin.

I'm going to be honest with you.

You need to stop making so many threads. Yes, we love involved and inquisitive members. And we appreciate all of your interest.

But more than half of your posts are new threads. Most of them are in the CQ&F asking every question that comes to your cute little head. But you're bordering on spamming. We don't need to know about every detail of your obsession with Moltres or Reshiram or whatever fictional, non-existant Pokemon you're apparently in love with.

What I'm saying is while we welcome your participation on our forums, think before you post. Your contributions could be much greater if you just heeded my advice. Good day.
