Why isn't my EV training working?

I have had a level 9 zubat. I made it hold the Macho Brace and i battled 5 poochyenas and 2 seedots. I did encounter other pokemon but ran away from them and upon reaching level 10 after only defeating 5 poochyena's and 2 seedots I expected to get the following EV's

    Poochyena gives 1 attack EV
    Seedot gives 1 defence EV

And holding the Macho Brace is supposed to double your EV so after a little calculation i expected to get at least 10 Ev's for attack and 4 Ev's for defence and upon level up i should have got attack + 2 and defence + 1, however i got attack + 1 and defence + 1 why?

EV training doesn't really start becoming apparent until you're around level 70-80. You still get the EVs, but your stats aren't gonna be very high at Lv. 10 or 20 yet.

This happens to me alot too but your Zubat did get the EVs. They'll probably become evident when it gets to a higher level. My Pokemon's EVs started to show in their 40's-50's when they were getting +4 and +5 to a single stat upon leveling

The stat boosts you get from EVs are evenly distributed across the 100 levels. In this way, you won't notice any big boosts in stats unless you started giving EVs at a high level. Does this make sense?

    ^^what they said

...but why EV train your Zubat in attack and defense? As someone who commonly uses a Crobat, I know that it can take a physical hit easily, it's special defense that needs a little boost. ^_^

As someone with common sense, I'm gonna have to say please do NOT EV Crobat in either defensive stats. @_@;; Crobat is all offenses, speed, and some HP.
