That depends. Considering I'll most likely have all my favorites prior to this situation, I'd just sell it or hold on to it.
Unless I only had about 3 Pokeballs to begin with, the converse could never happen. I wouldn't bother catching anything unless I knew it was a favorite. Forget the Pokedex.
