This is ridiculous. Can you at least still buy the coins or are you forever stiffed out of being able to buy those TMs?

They could've at least replaced it with a non-gambling-based minigame. Heck, they should offer something like that in ALL countries! The slots are annoying but necessary.

Man, that sucks! This is ridiculous! Condolences to the Europeans...

I hope Nintendo of America doesn't get any ideas of this for "censoring"...granted, I don't play the Slot Machines that much, but they're still a nice diversion from the main game at times. And some fans might prefer them more, as well. Eliminating their usage simply forces players to earn more money to buy Coins they easily could've won.

I'm surprised U.S. Pokemon games can even have fully operational Game Corners in the first place; you'd think they'd be edited due to the gambling similarity. And then some random person tries to sue NoA years down the road since gambling was "supposedly" caused by Pokemon's Game Corners, similar to those people who sued NoA because the Pokemon TCG was responsible for gambling addiction or something similar a few years back. Yeah, right.
The Game Corners should just be left intact. Or replace them with mini-games, at the very least. If you censor something as trivial as this, you might as well censor the whole game since "apparently" it encourages little kids to go on trips alone, as well as throwing balls at animals.

Lastly, you don't "censor" something like this if it has remained intact for a long time without trouble. It's a few years too late, Nintendo of Europe. Just let kids fully enjoy the freaking game!

Irony. Not only did it blow up in your face, but the U.S. division is merging with the European division anyway... harsh.

Your kidding me. Oh for christs sake, its a good thing I'm learning Japanese (but at a very slow pace mind), this is all going totally wrong, hopefully Platinum will be my last english Pokemon adventure..

    sucks for you guys,
I've always bough coins because to me its cheaper to buy coins rather then wasting money to win coins to get prizes

    :t354:TG

Yeah it sort of does, but they could buy the US version of the game. Although I would only hope many people don't care about it much because if they did and they really liked the place, they'd be upset and it would be a waste of money to some people.

Its quite a stupid removal from the games, if you ask me, when there are more pressing things to be concerned about when it comes to gaming. Not to mention that the suggestive texts are still in the game. "You could win it big or lose everything!" or something along those lines.

By the way, does anyone else find it a little ironic that they're 'suggesting' that gambling is a bad thing, but promoting scrounging around and stealing winnings that people have earned, but forgotten about? Hey kids, gambling is bad, but 'stealing' is good for you! Come back tomorrow, and maybe you can 'steal' some more!"

I expect a lot of backlash from this removal to the point where Nintendo don't remove the slots from the European version of HG/SS. If they do remove it from the European versions of the games, I'll be purchasing nothing but the American releases, since it seems they don't plan on removing it from those. (I don't care too much about the Game Corner, but I do like to occasionally play around in there; glad I bought a US Platinum...)

Has anyone checked if the Scratch Cards in the Battle Place are still there. I'm willing to bet all my savings that the 'censors' (protecting us from the EVIL game corner from the last three generations!) completely forgot to take it out!
So Germans SHOULD (hopefully) be able to gamble! (omg, some one think of the children!)

Really? I'd like a source on that. (You can't really merge companies operating overseas. They're all under the Nintendo brand already, and their ownership is to Nintendo Co. Ltd. of Japan.)
Wait... actually, it's the Pokemon Company, not Nintendo. Sorry about the mix-up. Here is your source.

Totally forgot about this, I hope not, I'm really intrigued by the scratch cards, mainly because not alot of guides seem to cover it (probably for a good reason which I dont know yet)

Let me get this straight, they took it out because real life gambling in a casino requires you to be a certain age, yet in games rated T (13+), some kid can run around shooting people? I'm pretty sure you aren't legal to kill people at age 13 in most places in the world...

It just goes to show how soft people are getting in around the world...

In the European versions of Platinum, the Veilstone Game Corner's slot machines cannot be used. This happens at least in the German and Spanish versions. I don't know how it is in the English, Italian and French ones.
The reason could be the legal age.
If you try to use the machines nothing happens. Sometimes there are some coins you can take.
I doubt the legal age is the reason. I mean it's not like 10 year old kids can gamble in the States either and the slots exist in the North American version of the game. Unless, that is, the German and Spanish-speaking countries have suddenly become more prudish than the USA, which if that is the case, I feel bad for whoever lives there as everything is going to be watered down to the point that it's just silly.

Wait... actually, it's the Pokemon Company, not Nintendo. Sorry about the mix-up. Here is your source.

I hope this doesn't mean that we're gonna have to wait as long as the Europeans do for the games to come out over here. If the time the games are released is merged for both divisions, hopefully the games will come out in Europe the same time as they do over here and not the other way around. I've hard Europeans complain about how long it took for games to be released and I have to say it's justified. Just look on Bulbapedia for the release dates of the games.

Strange. Perhaps the UK was given the American version while pan-European countries that had an English version were given the modified version.

That could be a possibility. I just can't believe you can't play the games in the game corner. What about all the other generation games? They had game corners too and it was playable for everyone.

Bugs Bunny had guns pointed at people's face and actually fired shotguns in people's faces. A Pokémon episode was banned completely for the former. Several Tom and Jerry cartoons have been edited for recent airings.

My point being: How much people want to smother children changes over time. People have gotten more protective over what their children see in media, thus laws and ratings have changed to reflect such things. Even the American version is seen to change things promoting gambling (IE: Gamers/PIs in place of Gamblers), but only as recently as FireRed and LeafGreen.

I fear for HeartGold and SoulSilver now; perhaps even the American English version may lack a Game Corner next...

Or maybe they think that they should protect the Europeans since they are our hopes and dreams, and censor them from the world. "Here kids, we'll be learning about the nervous system while the American kids play Grand Theft Auto!"

It's not like anyone who plays at the Game Corner really spends actual money out of their own pockets like gambling and as far as I am concerned, ESRB and other rating systems like that are only obeyed by 10% of the population anyways. Kids and younger people in general are not as dumb and impressionable as most politicians make them out to be, because if video games and other media did influence a person to act out a video game like Grand Theft Auto, then that person should get help.

I ,for one, call this decision by the Pokemon Company shenanigans .

Well yes you are not using your own real money, but they could get the idea from the games. I still think it was pretty dissapointing on how they did that though.
