Perhaps you're just nitpicking, Pompa, but those were confirmed as works of fiction by the authors. By the same attitude you're portraying, couldn't you say that everything ever written by Darwin is 100% false? That Newton was sadly mistaken when he wrote "Gravity exists"? If you scrawled on a paper "the sky is blue today", It's obviously false? Or are you comparing everything he believes to such fictional works...?

Darwin and Newton can back up their conclusions with recorded research. Kay3o has been asked to support his/her claims, and has yet to do so.

I do believe La Pompa is just being random as usual, rather than actually trying to make a valid point. *kicks*

Could someone please define for me "the end of the world"?

Like, are we talking our planet just spontaneously vaporizing? Or the universe as we know it, EVERYTHING ceasing to exist. Cause that is pretty big right there. Think about it - it makes about as much practical sense as the concept of infinity.

Of course it makes no sense! What could possibly happen to end the world in only two years that we haven't already picked up? Any asteroids (seems to be the most popular theory) on a potential collision course with Earth are picked up years beforehand. Global warming etc etc will take years. What could possibly happen?

Actually, the most widely accepted theory held by the scholars that study the Nostradamus prophecies and the ones of the ancient world is that a global war is what will destroy humanity. >_>

Like I said before, that would be more of a self-fulfilling prophecy than anything really profound. No one starts a war on accident and the nutjob warlord that does decide to spark a war on that date was most likely influenced by these 2012 prophecies. >_<

Uhm.. I don't see how "Spontaneous combustion of Earth" is funny.

Welcome to the Internets where sadism is a form of humor. :P

Sadly, I can see that happening. Perhaps he'll decide that it's his God-given duty to end the world. Like the Japanese in Six Sacred Stones.

Well, you could argue that there can be no "hard proof" that anything is ever GOING to occur, in any case at all. Most scientists aren't fool enough to proclaim any prediction/speculation, no matter how well-founded it may seem, as set in stone (not that this 2012 nonsense has any legitimate scientific backing, but you know what I mean)

But that's just, you know. Smartassery. :P

ok, well firstly (and this is NOT a reply to the last post in any way) the mayan calender end in 2012 because it was WAY to far to predict.

secondly, i was reading Newscientest the other week, and apparently some scientests think in 2012 (by coincedence) we will be i prime position to be hit by a plasma ball from the sun knocking out all our power grids, in the busiest parts of the world slowly killing all but the 3rd-world countrys.

and thirdly (forget the year 2012) if there is a WWIII then our technology will destroy the earth. (you know nukes, chemical warfare, etc.)

was I too much of a smartass then?
