    Birds. Symbolize freedom, I guess.
Running. Motivated. Shows that they're continuously moving ahead and looking for something.
Turning and facing the viewers. Beats being shown their mugs without any animation, I guess.
Characters in a melancholy mood just staring off into a corner. You need your daily dosage of emo, right? :p
Characters coming together. You gotta introduce 'em all somehow, right?
Sword/gun clashes. With motion blur for extra effect. No opening works without them Xplozunzz!!1
With extra dosage of walking. More emphasis on characters moving ahead I guess?
Characters flying around. ...drawing a blank here lol
    Characters shedding a tear. SADNESS.
Orb of light. Symbolizes hope, I guess.
    Feathers/Petals. EFFECT.
    Hand holding. INTIMACY.
Holding out their hands towards us/other characters. We may have violence and gore and whatnot but our anime is very welcoming. Do watch it, mmkay? <3
Back to birds. Birds are srs business, man.
If not that, then two characters facing off. Or more like away from each other. Creates TENSION.

    Anything beats this, honestly.

This was just plain lazy. And a failed attempt at abstract art, too. At least in my eyes.

Tokyo Ghoul root A was bad, that's a fact. But I loved the opening and ending.
The ending had original art for each episode, and I like anime that do that.
Now the opening, the art, I admit is really out of place. At first I thought it was more suited to an ending, but...It just grew on me.
Munou IMO fits Tokyo Ghoul better than Unravel. But I'd still put Unravel above Munou in terms of epicness, because its freaking epic.

I love Tokyo Ghoul's openings and endings so I'll pretend I didn't read any of the opposing opinions.

Root of A didn't live up to the hype and expectations but I wouldn't considered it 'bad', just 'meh' (though that could still be bad for some people xD).

    Very on topic.
Still relevant and accurate now xD

    very on topic:

    Spoiler:
Gonna be completely, one hundred percent real: I absolutely cannot stand that part.

Probably for personal reasons, but Unravel jives on my vibes, probably because of the way it and the show was presented to me. And that the whispering brings me back to Psycho-Pass.

I didn't really mind the show so much, even with all its edginess, until main girl revealed her true tsundere form. Then...well, let's just say that I'm probably perpetually stuck on the halfway point. I'll give it a few years and watch it of my own accord, maybe. Considering watching it was my only option at the time, I would probably like it more if I watched it on my own at my leisure...again, maybe. Unravel, too, possibly.

    :O

My mother once heard me listening to it and got completely mad like "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU LISTENING TO".
Of course I failed to provide an accurate response.

    Boku no naka ni...

    dareee ga iru no?!

    Well that was actually good.

    It's karaoke time!

She is the kind of "catchy pop songs", so when unravel played she went bananas.

If there's someone who suffers due to her son's music, that's my mum lol

    Update:

Someone just knocked on the door asking if we had some clothes to donate for charity. Her answer was "Did you try getting a job?" and closed the door abruptly.

    Your mum sounds... er...

Anyway, remember when I said to remind me to get Kyoukai no Kanata out of my backlog last month? Guess who just got around to marathon it.

My family has to suffer through my music as well, though for that reason I generally listen to music through headphones or in my room. I have the...misfortune, I guess, to not really have an avid interest in Western Pop-Cultural music, Western Love songs, or anything angst, so it greatly, GREATLY reduces the amount of relatable music I listen to as an American. 95% of the music I listen to regularly is Japanese, largely because Japanese music (as well as Retro and Eastern Game music) puts melody first, which is good for memorability. They don't seem to mind too much anymore, though, and think I should actually reserve myself less by just playing the stuff out loud. But I won't subject them to that.

    ---

Huh. So, call it what you will, but I like Unravel. The beginning grinds me because my roommates would often whisper it (slightly off-key) and there was some gushing around the show, which gave me the not-so-healthy negative disposition towards the song (and the show...though I feel my judgments that I made when watching it hold true).

It's actually quite a nice opening. It does audio-visual cohesion better than quite a few openings and I'm a big fan of violin/non-guitar string use outside of classical music in an almost Danse Macabre style (a piece that I hold as one of my favorites). It has a nice melody once it gets going and, lyrically, isn't nearly as angsty as one may suspect, but compliments the show well. It's pretty good, glad I went back.

I don't really know when it comes to my parents, but my brother is a huge J-Music fan. Heck, he's a pro at osu!, and constantly adds new J-Music into his already huge library, and he also plays them on the keyboard. I can name a lot of them, actually.

Meanwhile, the only thing I could play is Bad Apple, yay. :'D

Your brother sounds like me if I could play piano.

I'm a gigantic Osu! fan, been going strong for 5 years now, and my Osu! folder is getting close to 19 gigs (which is...God knows how many songs). I could go on and on about Osu!, but A&M.

And being able to play Bad Apple's a success in my book. Absolutely love that song (well, I love a lot of Touhou music, but that's one's definitely up there for me).

No way I tried to find the notes myself and I also failed at deducing the chords to it just 'cause there's only 6 notes being played in the main melody disregarding lower and higher notes lol. Plus, with me away from the keyboard like 90% of the time thanks to staying at my relative's place for college I'm already pretty rusty at it lol.

Well the notes I found are all on the black keys anyway aside from a couple of them so feel free to experiment on a keyboard software or something. No other major scales works as well as the black keys anyway, tested them all out.

    D# F F# G# A# C# and D for a lower note/higher note. It's either C# major scale or F# major scale, really. I don't have the time to test it out anyway.

I'm blabbing about music on the A&M DCC and I bet no one understands me completely lol.

aaand just like that the topic drifted away from a domain I am familiar with lol

The only thing I've got to say on-topic of Unravel is that I absolutely loved the opening like most people did. I think there are better openings out there, yeah, but this is pretty high up there. Absolutely love that one scene where the music simply picks up the pace and touka's kagune shows up with all kinds of abstract art.

As for my opinion on the second opinion, I'd like to clarify one thing - I don't think the song is crappy. In fact, I actually quite like the song itself. The melody is quite nice and the lyrics do fit the show, I guess. But when I said the opening was an abomination as an art piece, I meant it as an overall package - mostly attributed to its super-lazy animation. I disliked what I saw, that's all.

Speaking of openings, current season has a ton of top-notch ones imo. Ore! Monogatari, Yamada-kun, FSN UBW, Gintama, Kekkai Sensen and OregaIru all have amazing openings. And current season is pretty strong when it comes to EDs as well - what with Shokugeki no Soma's super catchy ED and Kekkai Sensen's fantastic piece too. <3

I've never tried a tapioca the root before haha

Kekkai Sensen has the best OST I've heard in a while, seriously.

Yes, I'm inclined to support your views on that one. Really, really looking forward to getting the entire OST. All the tracks used in there are catchy as hell.

Waiting for the full ED to come out with bated breath right now tbh. That ED kicks ass. I can keep on humming the song forever haha.
