  • Yup, they can be caught in any game! Pre-GenIII doesn't count, and shinies from Emerald don't count if they're from the same frames, but other than that you can hunt pretty much however you want. For the types, all that matters is that at least one of your shiny's types is a required one, so dual-types definitely count. If your shiny has two types that could count, you get to pick which one you want it to be for! Chained and Safaried shinies are counted separately at the end, but that's just for ranking purposes at the end - you can still hunt with these methods!

For more information on the rules, you can check out this post here. The Spring Quest is kind of an extension of the larger Yearly Quest (basically adding possible teams for you to make), so be sure to check that out if you're interested! :)

EDIT: "lol" I realize I didn't answer your question at all. Yes, they can be caught over multiple games! You can get six different shinies on six different games, or all on the same game, or some in one game and some on another...it's totally up to you! :)
Thanks for all the info. I'm definitely going to attempt this. You mentioned rankings, does that mean there is a prize at the end?

Also do we message you our findings so you can keep track or do we just post them in here?

EDIT. Well I got that shiny Pichu today after 801 eggs. I'll be entering this one as my baby pokemon for the Spring Quest.

I found a shiny Phantump after about 100 encounters in my first Friend Safari hunt recently, unfortunately I also had a couple no luck shiny hunts, went 156 fish chains before breaking the chain for a shiny Luvdisc and developed carpal tunnel in my left thumb which spread to my wrist later on.

Also went 520 or so encounters in Friend Safari looking for either a Kakuna, Swalot or Whirlipede.

Phantump is an awesome shiny, congrats on it. Did you nickname it, and what's its nature and personality trait?

Hi everyone, welcome new members and congrats everyone on all new shinies.

Yesterday caught a shiny that I started hunting since 2014 i think; the reason it took me a long time was because I
SR´ed it too fast, like in automatic mode, and also this time i was almost going to hit the reset combo again, good thing i did notice this time, I'm happy I caught this one and this hunt is finally over and now I can continue with other hunts with "calm mind" get it? lol. Ok the shiny I'm writting about is the roamer in black Tornadus. I think I'll add it to the spring quest to see if I can compete it, but i don't know if we can still complete the quests like team flying, team fire, etc..; so here are the pics and going to add it to my shiny collection. Now to complete pokemon White to get shiny thundurus (hope this one doesn´t take that long) and finally get landorus to complete this shiny trio.

See you around and happy hunting

I don't really get IV's I usually just ignore them.

Anyways I found a shiny Teddiursa in 210 encounters in Friend Safari.

Also getting lots of carpal tunnel so not sure how much more of this I can do.

Just hatched my first Shiny ever!!!!! I've caught two shinies but never hatched one.

It's Vulpix! 5 IVs (Missing HP but beggers can't be choosers) and has it's Drought ability.

I'm just lucky Ninetales is one of the coolest looking shinies. Coincidentally enough I caught my favorite pokemon's shiny (Golduck) in Black and he's just a darker shade of blue. A gold Golduck would probably look awesome. Shiny Psyduck is blue, why not?

The ocean floor's a really cool place to explore. I love doing encounters here!

Awesome, congrats on the Pichu! You're already on your way to completing the Spring Team! :)

    Haha sorry, there isn't a formal prize for winning outside of bragging rights! But, uh, er...*tries to think of something*...you'll be forever regarded as a leading champion of one of the world's most historic institutions, having arduously accomplished an ostensibly insurmountable task! Your name will go down in history as an historic SHC champion, and future generations of shiny hunters will look up to you as one of the legends who won one of the first five Yearly Quests! {XD}

And you don't have to worry about messaging me! Just post them here - I'm sure everyone will be thrilled to hear about your shiny captures! I'll definitely read all the posts, but you can make a post at the end of the year about how you want to organize your teams and which shinies you want to count for what!

Best of luck on your Ho-oh! You're so close!!! :pink_nod:

Sweet, congrats on the Phantump and Teddiursa! But watch out for the carpal tunnel!!!!!!! I got that back in July and couldn't really hunt again for five months. :( I'd definitely recommend taking a break for a little bit so it doesn't get worse and keep you out of commission for even longer! Stopping for a few days now is better than having to stop for a few months!

I just like knowing the characteristic since I find them interesting. Makes you know their personality a little more.

That's a pretty cool idea - I hadn't been checking the characteristics of my shinies, but that absolutely gives them cool personalities. I'm going to start checking mine!

Huge congrats on Tornadus!! Getting the roamers sounds incredibly difficult - awesome job getting a shiny one!! And good luck with Thundurus; you definitely can still go for the Yearly Teams! The Spring one is an additional one that you can only complete during April/May, but the other ones (like Team Flying) are available to complete throughout the whole year! :)

Awesome, huge congrats on that 5IV Drought shiny Vulpix! What an entrance to the club, haha. Welcome to the SHC!

What was the other shiny you've caught? (And yeah, Gold Golduck would be so much cooler!! The shinies that are bright gold or black are usually the best ones, haha!)

Volbeat is the other one I caught. Right outside the daycare, I was breeding stuff and accidentally went into the flowers and there it was.

I saw a shiny Geodude in a horde but the other Geodudes used Magnitude... :(

I always thought the same, a gold Golduck would have been cool. Or at least swap Psyduck and Golduck colors.

I started getting a bit of it too SRing so I started using hair ties on my DS to hold down the L and R buttons. I really wasn't up for dealing with hand and wrist pain. Glad I started using that trick before things got worse for me.

Since you're playing GBA pokemon games there really are no tricks since Masuda Method hadn't been invented yet and neither was shiny charm so your chances no matter what are going to be 1/8192.

In terms of tips I say do something while shiny hunting as often as you can. Watch tv, listen to music, talk on the phone. It gets tiresome and boring when not doing anything. Sometimes I do still shiny hunt while not doing anything but after a few hours I start falling asleep. Just never give up or if you do feel like you are about to take a day off or so.

You say you play on emulators on a tablet. Does not being able to trade to legit games bother you at all? I tend to not play any emulators for pokemon because I would be so angry if I got a shiny and never be able to transfer it to my real games. But there are so many hacks I wanna play. Like the one with Kris instead of Lyra in HGSS.

I started using a 3DS when X and Y came out, the first difference I noticed between it and the Gameboy Advance XP is it is sooo much heavier. It actually hurts to hold it for long periods of time as well as moving the thumb between the buttons.

In reply to G-Money I think it started when I tried fish chaining for a Luvdisc, I went about 150 and broke it. I'm also trying to fill up my Pokedex which involves using Mew or Jirachi in Victory Road and EXP Share, In the last few weeks my Pokedex has gone from maybe 250 to 450 owned.

Anyways now I just leave it on the charger instead of holding it, safari is really the easiest way the shiny hunt in this manner.

Anyways just found a shiny Ponyta in Friend Safari after 42 encounters. Currently in the same safari looking for either Braixen, Larvesta or another Ponyta to evolve. I'll probably evolve Larvesta and leave Braixen as it is.
