  • For the AYAA and THEA contest, pixel art is not an acceptable medium. It really isn't for anything that's art related, as it's general used as a commercial (game sprites, anything that was made for money) thing and really isn't founded as an art type. I participated in the AYAA last year and didn't stand a chance, but the experience was good and I gained large amount of information about what most judges see as great.
If something was 100% it wouldn't be art.

Everyone is paranoid to a degree, but if I had not matured the way I did (gotten out of public school for one) I think I would be mentally unstable at this point in time.

I'll take the SAT in September and I'll take it again on the next offered date, or at least before my application deadlines. For all my tests there are not last minute studies. If I don't have something in my mind right now, I'm not going to get 10 minutes before the test and stress myself out. Unless it's like vocabulary. Many many times I've looked at the terms we were supposed to look up at home, given a week to, the 10 minutes or so of study time and gotten perfect scores.
But I will study before hand. I just don't get stressed out on tests.

My first day as the Cherry Goddess. A sentence is said about it and it's done. xD Though, if I met anyone new I've got no clue what they would call me and it's pretty much automatic to make nicknames.
For me I would pick Rica out of that name and use it. (Even though it's really Rıça [Ree-jah]) But as it's not the starting of the name I'd ask permission first because it's not so easily seen.

I would totally plan on an interview, but is it normal to travel out of state to do one?
I don't think judges on PC can be called professional judges, because usually to be picked as a judge you are already pretty successful in your field of work. Also specifically at the AYAA there were atleast... 30-50 peices in artwork in each section and there are about...30 different categories I can think of at the top of my head. Anyways these are all in a big showroom and the judges look at everything while the students leave for lunch, the doors are open when we come back and the judges pick in a matter of 2-3 hours and get back to us with the results. My teacher said they probably spend less than a minute looking at each piece of artwork. Yet usually there are no big qualms about the winner.

I was searching to see if I could find some actual picture of people running around there, or how big the showroom is, but I only found artworks. (From 2005) A school made a small (and really really crappy) page about it, if you'd like to see.
What's fun to see is that Cari Campbell's 1st Place in Charcoal, Imitationalism also won the $14,000 Scholarship for the THEA Competition of 2005. This is one thing my school usually makes an assignment to participate in every year as Theamopolis, the girl it was named after (she died between 11th and 12th, and was going to be in senior studio like me) went to our school and had my two art teachers as well. We haven't really placed recently as it seems this group of people are not as creative, but I really wanna do well this time around. :3

Wheee, back from related-but-off-topic land, I will be applying to 5 for more colleges. It's just I'm pretty sure I'll get accepted to both, and if I get excepted to one and not the other, I'm going to that one. I'm pretty sure I'm clinically paranoid, as in 6th grade every time a car came by my bus stop I thought they were either going to kidnap me or go off the road and run me over, but when my mother just replied "They're not going to do that!" I control it myself, as I don't believe in long term drugs. I'm always thinking so I always have 100 what-if's about each situation, so even though I'm 100% sure I'll get accepted to either, I still have many other options open for sanity reasons.

I will be taking the SAT this September (along side my 21 year old sister?!), and I should study pretty hard even though I'm pretty sure I'm going to take it again within the year. I haven't thought specifically about the 'filling' the application, but the actual structuring my portfolio. That I can actually ask my teacher to help me with during class and get the rest of the studio's comments.
I see... What did OB tell you?
    That's good to hear...

    I see...

Anyway, I'm going to a summer cabin today with my friends... If you read my PC blog then you should know... So see you this week or the other. :)
Sorry about taking forever to get back to you. I tend to get distracted. A lot. ._.

Anyway, first off, awesome to hear that you're still in. I wouldn't be surprised that you'll have a busy summer, but it definitely sounds like it's worth it. How long do you have on this program, by the way? (If you don't have much time between now and when the end of summer break is for you, then I'm heavily impressed by that bit about the academic report.)

As for graduate schools, yep. Job opportunities especially, really. I'm terrified of graduating and having no potential job thanks to a lack of a local network to tap into. (As in, I'd have to get in touch with alumni in order to get an "in" into the industry.) The market I really want to get into has been shaky lately. You'd think I'd pursue something else, but... *shrug* Thanks for the luck and the compliment. =D

As for the transfer, ah, I see. Yeah, that does make it a bit harder. Still, I'm sure someone will take you, especially if you're coming from a top school as it is. Have you been working on your applications for this year lately, or have you already sent them out?

Also, you weren't kidding when you said those maps would be giant. O_o Still, they're very nice. (Although argh to Photobucket for shrinking one of them.) I love the detail, and it's really cool to see redesigned/anime-based versions of Viridian and Pallet. I especially love Viridian out of all of those maps. It looks like there's a ton of stuff to do there.

As for being invisible, yeah. I tend to linger in invisible mode for awhile, in part because I'm too lazy to switch back and forth between modes. XD It's more convenient to be in invisible mode anyway, isn't it?

Finally, as for my weekend, it's been good. I mostly worked on a beta and some writing, and I've made some great progress in both. (Almost finished the beta, and I got down a new scene for AEM.) How about you?
