I'm pretty much the same. I don't actually know what species inhabit which route but I make sure I have at least one battle per patch of grass. When I beat Ghetsis I had caught around 90 Pokemon.

I kind of accept the amount of water routes for what it is; I had no problem with the abundance of water based routes in Hoenn and I have no problem with the lack of ones in Unova. BUT I love Waterfall. <3 And always think they're should be more! Route 14 was a half an hour of heaven for me! :P
