Some dogs hang out with cats. I see it many times at my friend's house.
Other than that I don't know why dogs and cats don't get along.

I think its just there natural instinct, although some cats and dogs get along.

I forget what it's called, but it was some prehistoric mammal that apparently evolved into two separate species, cat and dog.

Pretty much every science book about cats or dogs says that. At least, the ones aimed at older readers.
