-In Character-
-+- The Basics:
Full Birth Name: Gareth Thomas Patterson
Nick Names: Any nicknames will be met with a DEATHGLARE and promise of imminent demise.
Age: Eighteen
Location of Childhood Home: Mauville City
Gem Classification: The True Blue Geek – (Topaz)
-+- Pokemon:
Name: Azar
Type: Charmeleon
Distinguishing Marks? There's nothing very distinguishing about Azar; she looks fairly run of the mill and average.
PERSONALITY: To be specific, Azar was probably reincarnated into the wrong body. Her demeanor hardly speaks highly of a pokemon with such lineage. She's very quiet, terrified of water, and hates to stay in her cramped pokeball. You'll frequently find her ejecting herself from it to have a look around, or just to escape the monotony. Despite exposure to both a Fire Stone and multiple opportunities, Azar absolutely refuses to evolve into her final form of Charizard, merely because she thinks that would make her too large to travel with Gareth anymore. Being that she originally belonged to someone else, her bond with Gareth is rather astounding.
History: A few years ago, when Gareth was first beginning his journey through Kanto, he came across a new trainer named Sosie who was originally in possession of Azar. The two became awkward friends when he saved her from drowning in a river after she unknowingly attempted to capture his Dewgong. They travelled together for nearly a year when they decided to go their separate ways. She bequeathed to him her beloved Azar, but refused to allow him to trade to her his Dewgong. Azar immediately took to Gareth, and she's the only bit of Sosie he has left.
Name: Borealis
Type: Dewgong
Distinguishing Marks? Borealis's horn is significantly longer than a normal Dewgong's.
PERSONALITY: Very laid back, Borealis could be considered lazy. Gareth prefers to put it that the large pokemon merely bides his time, not preferring to waste energy on unworthy opponents. The truth of the matter is that Borealis is freakin' lazy. Period. He's become so complacent in the fact that he is Gareth's oldest pokemon that he tries to be king of the entire lot. The only thing this one is king of is inactivity though.
History: Borealis was actually traded for early on in Gareth's pokemon adventure. In exchange for the Mudkip that absolutely despised the boy, Borealis quickly bonded with his new master, and proved his immense loyalty when he protected Gareth from an attacking Tentacruel. There has actually never been a time when the Dewgong was not part of Gareth's team, and as stated previously, loves to lord his self-imposed status of "most loved pokemon" to his teammates.
Name: Meeks
Type: Farfetch'D
Distinguishing Marks? One of the end of Meeks's leek has actually been filed to a point, and he uses it to both jab at his opponents and to scratch drawings into the dirt.
PERSONALITY: With how serious Gareth is, one wouldn't expect this absolute mess of a pokemon anywhere near his lineup. But Meeks carved his own niche in Gareth's team quite soon after he was traded. Very dense and easily excitable, Meeks is normally the butt of jokes and made fun of constantly. However, whenever he thinks he's being cast in a negative light, the Farfetch'D tends to bash people once or twice over the head with his leek, smiling and chirping afterwards. He has a drive to prove himself, but he needn't try. The mere fact that Gareth allows such an odd and admittedly stupid pokemon on his team is enough to prove just how powerful and valuable Meeks actually is.
History: Trading pokemon was always something that Gareth enjoyed doing, but when he handed over his Spearow to the giggling little girl, he had no idea what he was in for. She'd only informed him that he was to receive a rare bird pokemon, and indeed, Farfetch'D are not at all that common. She didn't, however, inform Gareth of Meeks's … intellectual delays. The two could not be considered close, but Gareth is quite often entertained by Meeks's antics; though he tries not to show it.
Name: Rire
Type: Plusle
Distinguishing Marks? Rire is slightly larger than the average Plusle, and has a red patch over her left eye.
PERSONALITY: At the beginning of their time together, Rire reflected her name absolutely perfectly. (Rire is the French verb "to laugh". Get educated, pplz.) She was even partnered with a Minun named Crire. (To cry. Four years of French = not completely useless). The two were quite talented together, and were near mirror images of each other in personality. That is, of course, until Crire's pokeball was stolen from Gareth. Since then, whenever Rire is released from her own pokeball, she always looks expectantly to her left, thinking that Crire is there to battle with her as well. Even though it's been nearly two years now, she hasn't quite realized that Crire likely may never return.
History: While on his way to return home to Mauville City, Gareth happened upon a Plusle and Minun pair playing leapfrog in the bushes. Not one to pass up his chance, and oddly enough, without an Electric pokemon in his arsenal, Gareth immediately captured them both and trained them to be a combative and well groomed double battle team. When Crire was stolen, he was infuriated that someone would interrupt his team like so.
Name: Uaithne
Type: Vibrava
Distinguishing Marks? None really. Uaithne is ordinary as all hell.
PERSONALITY: Uaithne is incredibly quiet, and mainly only does what he is told. He's very much a loner of sorts, and is on shaky ground with he rest of the pokemon on Gareth's team. They tolerate him because he offers quite a bit to the table, but don't care for him because the loner attitude he puts on makes him appear arrogant and annoying.
History: While traveling Route 111, Gareth stumbled upon a rather annoying Trapinch. He wanted nothing to do with the creature, but it simply would not let he and his team pass. It forced itself into battle with his Skitty, but was quickly captured. Gareth had fully considered trading the Trapinch for some other pokemon, until he used it in a battle out of boredom to find that it was a tremendously smart and obedient creature. Using Uaithne quite frequently, the Trapinch quickly evolved into its current Vibrava form, and even though he is technically Gareth's newest pokemon, it is one of his favorites for battle.
Name: Bleddyn
Type: Mightyena
Distinguishing Marks? The black fur along Bleddyn's back is longer than most, and one of his ears has a slight nick in it.
PERSONALITY: When you need the job done, you call in Bleddyn. Aggressive and not the most enjoyable of teammates, Bleddyn knows how to get the job done. He happens to be Gareth's most violent pokemon, but the sheer power of his Bite keeps him in the party. Otherwise, Gareth has admitted before, it's likely that Bleddyn would spend the entirety of his life in the Box. There was a time when his trainer was actually slightly anxious that the large Mightyena would not obey him because of his aggressive and rageful nature, but thankful, that fear has been put to rest. While Bleddyn doesn't always follow Gareth's directions exactly, he gets the job done, and Gareth keeps him around.
History: While wondering through Hoenn, Gareth was quite literally attacked from behind by the spunky Poochyena. It's a story that he will never tell, but his backside nearly became dinner for the growling mess of fur. It didn't even take a battle to capture the young pup, but after consistently using him in battle Bleddyn sincerely proved his worth. He is most definitely not the most gentle of giants, but Gareth takes pride in the fact that he can keep such a violent pokemon in check.
IN THE BOX
Name: Aslynn
Type: Delcatty
Distinguishing Marks? Aslynn's main body coloring is darker than most Delcatty's.
PERSONALITY: Prim and proper, that's Aslynn for you. She used to be a staple on Gareth's team, but she was less interested in battling and much more geared towards contests, which was something that Gareth was not at all going to look into. Before putting her in the box, he did promise her that he'd get her a ribbon someday, but that he was going to get all his battling out of the way first. Very patient, Aslynn has absolutely no problem waiting, but if the need should arise for her to enter into battle, she'd do it in a heartbeat.
History: Gareth acquired Aslynn around the same time he did Bleddyn. The two were polar opposites, being in that they were feline and canine in origin, and in personality. Outside of battles, the two didn't mesh well at all, and their endless bickering nearly drove Gareth insane. Shortly after Gareth exposed her to a Moon Stone causing her evolution, Aslynn became very interested indeed in Pokemon Contests. Because he had no desire for such at the moment, she's residing patiently in his Box, waiting for him to keep good on his promise.
-+- Appearance:
Eye Color: Clear blue; rather plain, nothing absolutely remarkable about them.
Hair Color/Style: Dark cyan; falls down to his mid back, always held in a loose braid.
Height: Five feet; eleven inches
Weight: One hundred and forty-seven pounds
General Appearance: Gareth does not at all appear intimidating, and that's the way he likes it. He enjoys catching people off guard with the power of his pokemon, and that tends to be one of the few times you catch a glimpse of anything besides annoyance on his seemingly stone-carved features. To possess such emotional control and physical ability in such an unassuming package is possibly his greatest asset.
Adventures, bby. Gareth's normal gear is average and comfortable, really. (Notice a pattern here? Our lovely little buttface certain likes to appear very unassuming.) A pair of plain black pants hang on his hips, secured by a belt with a long silver chain connected to it. Hanging by specific intervals on the chain are his pokeballs, though he finds it much too bothersome to actually physically throw the balls, and merely calls for his pokemon when they are needed. A white shirt hugs his torso, covered mostly by the deep green jacket he frequently wears. The same black bandana that Sosie wore as a headband hangs from his neck; he never takes it off. He also always wears a pair of black gloves.
THERE IS MORE BUT IT R CRUCIAL TO DA PWOT. HEHEHEHEHE.

- being undermined
- himself
- thinking about the big picture
- poison pokemon. They urk him. They're all ugly.
Goals: Gareth doesn't have any real goals, per se. He's living for the moment and doesn't give one spit about the future. Although he'd probably be ashamed of himself for all of eternity if Sosie were to ever find out what he's been doing since she's been gone. Though, if you really wanted to get technical, one would suppose his goal would be to fulfill whatever mission was set out before him.
Skills: Not only is Gareth good at what he does, he makes sure everyone knows it. He has a talent of getting the job done, no matter the cost. While not exactly being a true strategist, he thinks in such an elaborate and roundabout way that his battling frequently stumps people because they simply can't make much sense of it. He can totally separate himself from the morality of his actions, which some may consider a skill.
Quirks | Habits: In general, Gareth makes it a rule not to reveal anything to anyone, but if one were to basically stalk him, they'd notice that whenever he's near displaying any real emotion, he'll reach up to his neck and adjust the bandana tied around it. He frequently cracks the knuckles on his hands, and never removes the gloves, no matter what.
Secrets: It's not as if he wears those gloves for a fashion statement people. When he was younger, he held a Cyndaquil a little too tight. The poor thing ended up giving him second degree burns all over his hands, and while he still has fairly the same mobility in his fingers, they're terribly scarred from the burns. He's quite ashamed of them, and keeps them hidden. And he keeps his past with Sosie a secret as well. Nobody needs to really know that.
Reputation: To be honest, Gareth's only reputation is as a force to reckoned with. Several of his colleagues find him to a freak, or truly evil, to be able to commit such acts without mercy or regret.
Personality: As a child, Gareth was, oddly enough, incredibly normal. He laughed, he cried, he stubbed his toes, what have you. He was just like anyone else. It was when his parents divorced that he closed himself off to most emotions. At nine years old, this is quite a feat, mind you. The way he saw it, the only thing they did was get you hurt in the end. And the only people that wouldn't hurt you were your pokemon. Without even a goodbye to his mother and step-father, he left one day to begin his pokemon training. He didn't much care which pokemon he received to start with, and when it didn't like him and he didn't care for it, he traded it quickly and without feeling even the smallest pricks of guilt. His emotions were reserved solely for his pokemon, and they were the only ones that deserved his affections.
When he started traveling with Sosie, however, she found his emotionless demeanor incredibly bothersome, and tried desperately to get him out of that boring and annoying shell. Her work was handsomely rewarded. Over the course of his journeys with the girl, Gareth quickly became more open and even smiled once and again. He seemed to be a new person. All of Sosie's work was quickly lost however, when she decided it was time to set out by herself, reaffirming Gareth's notion that anyone you ever care about will only disappoint and leave you. SPOILER'D!
-+- History:
Past: It's become a cliché word by now, but Gareth's early childhood was basically average. The only real slip-up was the Cyndaquil accident when he was five, and even afterwards, he was a cheerful child despite his obvious disability. He continued to keep his hands covered, however, only because of the wistful and remorseful look his mother, who was a primary fire-type trainer, gave him whenever she caught a glimpse of his uncovered hands. When he was nine, his parents divorced and his father moved away; his mother remarried almost immediately after. Gareth figured this to be a massive and unredeemable betrayal of his trust, and shortly after meeting his step-father, left Mauville to being a pokemon journey. He never said goodbye to either his mother or step-father, and has only seen them twice since.
Meeting Sosie was perhaps the greatest turning point in his young life. She had just began her own pokemon journey with her small, neurotic Charmander, when she caught a glimpse of Gareth's beloved Dewgong Borealis swimming lazily through a river. She attempted to capture the pokemon, throwing a pokeball at it, only for Borealis to send the object back at her, hitting her smack in the middle of her forehead and leading her to stumble into the rushing waters of the river. Through a dual effort, both Borealis and Gareth managed to rescue her while Azar literally bawled her eyes out on the bank of the river. After a brief shouting match while Gareth accused her of trying to steal his pokemon, she apologized and invited him to travel with her, something he reluctantly agreed to. Though their journey together was only a year and a half in length, when you're with someone twenty-four-seven that long, they're certainly going to have an effect on you. Gareth definitely became a much better person for it, but admittedly, a much worse one once Sosie left.
