Archer, getting a team of that is pretty time consuming, and training up Abra is very difficult.

We have already come to the conclusion that the best starter is Squirtle, so no Charizard. Squirtle can take on most of the gyms. A Lapras is helpful as well, as Lapras can take on the E4 pretty well.

It is a little different in yellow, because you can get all three starters. I think for the Yellow Version, the team would be Charizard and Lapras, with a Pikachu that's used in the beginning. I mean, the main reason we chose Squirtle was because of the difficulties Charmander had defeating Brock and Misty, but in Yellow you can't have either one for Brock, and you'd have Pikachu for Misty. Also I just checked Serebii and Charizard has 1 more Base stat for Attack, so his earthquake would be that much more powerful! :P

I'm going to try only Squirtle for my next runthrough. I have a good feeling about this runthrough.

Fair enough, but I can't see much use in Pikachu past Misty. It can't evolve, so its stats would fall behind quickly. Is it also worth looking at Pokemon with a faster EXP growth rate? Eg. In game trades or 600,000 exp. to lv100 Pokemon?

Might give this a go, one day. :D

That's what I was saying. Pikachu would be able to get you started (until you beat misty) and then the Charmander would help you after that (Dig for Lt. Surge, Ember/Fly (if he's a Charizard) for Erika. After that you can have Lapras.

Just a quick note on how my first speed run's going. I've beaten Misty and my time is 1:40.
