  • That is correct. You can also use your starter briefly afterward for the sake of getting low leveled Dragon-types up to a level where they can adequately fight.
Alright, thanks. So I'd be able to keep the starter long enough to train the dragon type a little bit? That actually helps alot! :)

  • I believe it's okay to post a question here. I've already completed a monotype challenge in the past (Fire Red, Mono-Bug) but I was curious if I wanted to submit it towards the ultimate monotype challenge, would it still count? Would all I have to do is move onto one of the Johto games?

Also, what if I wanted to use another type, would anyone mind giving me suggestions on what type they enjoyed using the most. Mind you, I'm going to go for the ultimate monotype challenge either way, but, I'm just curious to what would be a fun type to use. I was thinking Normal, but it seems like a lot of people are already attempting that as is. I don't know, I hope this isn't out of line due to the nature of this post, but I just want to ask for opinions/get answers.

    Update #1:

Ok I've finished Red and will be moving onto Gold.
I enjoyed using my team especially Dragonite. It took ages to train but ended up getting a bit overleveled compared to the rest of the team.

    Final Team:

That's it for now. I would have updated sooner, but certain academic situations have kept me from doing so. Also, I've been trying to put some time into my X run of the Mega Evolution Challenge, so that's gotten in the way too. But, now I'll be able to work on it more efficiently. See you guys later!

    I'm up to the champion...

    GOD it's hard

    edit: I did it...

    here's the proof

-after I beat the last gym, I started to surf. yay...
-well, then I entered victory road
-neither gave me much trouble other than a stray torterra from a trainer (ugg)
-I made it to the elite four! yay
    -I failed miserably
    -I grinded
    -failed again
-I tried to get a lucky egg to make grinding easier
-I got a lv 20 luxio (trained lv 3 shinx) and used a repel to find a chansey easier
-I gave up, bought 8 hyper potions and 8 revives, and started the elite four
-The bug guy wasn't that hard
-I blew half my stuff on the ground guy
    -I beat the fire guy
    -I crunched the psychic guy
-I saved right before the champion
-I restarted multiple times. GOD, is that garchomp hard. why is it dragon/ground anyway?
-before the battle, I rare candied static and spark to revive them, hyper potioned shock, and taught it attract.
-I used zapper to discharge spiritomb...Cynthia used a full restore so spiritomb KO'd zapper...I sent out static because I thought it could take a hit or do just a little damage...she switched to garchomp early...garchomp KO'd static...I sent out spark to take a hit...I attempted to heal shock a bit...garchomp missed twice so I got multiple chances...spark got KO'd and I sent shock...I used attract...I got lucky and KO'd garchomp...with low health and an elixer I barely KO'd gastrodon...lucario waisted all my haper/max potions...milotic was annoying but easy...I used attract on roserade...I got lucky that it got immobilized by love enough to KO it

I know a lot of people are doing bug, but I've already done a bunch of monotypes with ghost and water and I almost never end up using bugs in game.
Starting with Fire Red. wish me luck!
