Appearance: Alabaster mostly looks like a normal Mankey except that he is slightly bigger than most of his species. Due to a birth-defect the part of his tail that would normally be brown is instead a mix between pink and purple. Unlike most Mankeys, Alabaster has calm, deep-purple eyes that seem to always glance past what he is looking at. Almost as if he was looking into another dimension. In his forehead, Alabaster has his crew insignia tattooed. According to Alabaster, the placing of the mark is for him to have a third eye, one that sees what no one else sees. This also accounts for his nickname "The Pseudo-Psychic".
Alabaster's right ear also has two golden rings in it, a gift from his father that is very dear and personal to the Mankey, he would never go anywhere without them. But a key feature that makes Alabaster stand out the most is the fact that the fur on his hands are of a very dark color, almost bordering to black, this is because the Mankey burned his fur in the process of learning one of his two signature moves; Fire Punch. Due to his fur being burned, the distinct smell of smoke lingers in the air whenever he is near.
As for clothing, Alabaster wears a simple light-blue west with some red patches here and there which gives the west an abstract feeling whenever you see it. Like there is some deeper meaning regarding this piece of clothing. Although there isn't any such meaning behind it, it's just a regular, patched west. Although he often goes barefoot, Alabaster does sometimes wear boots for more "sophisticated" occasions.
Personality: If you could only use one word to describe Alabaster with, it would most certainly be 'calm'. Unlike most of his species that are angry, short tempered, reckless and sometimes stupid, the Mankey is calm and collected. He is somewhat laid-back but not lazy, he simply does what he think needs to be done and hardly anything else. He has a huge amount of patience and while he waits for something Alabaster often likes to perform one his favorite activities, namely meditation.
Alabaster always thinks through something to the best of his ability before doing anything. This can leave him locked up inside his room for several days if there is something big that he needs to decide. Because the Mankey likes to think things through first, he HATES to be forced to make big decisions in a short time-span, it can leave him in quite the bad mood. Thus he tries to avoid these as often as he can, mostly passing them onto someone else if such a situation arouses. Most people see this as immature and irresponsible of him, but Alabaster has his reasons.
The Mankey-captain also has a big spot in his heart for philosophy, it his other favorite activity next to meditation. He can sit for hours, looking at the sea, thinking about nearly everything that comes to his mind. In such a state he is mostly not able to contact whatsoever, some people can actually be rightfully freaked out by this. Alabaster often enjoys sitting and thinking for a few hours and then rounding it off with some meditation.
"It makes me both fill my mind with thoughts as well as empty it completely. It is a peaceful and simple state that I wish more Pokémon could be able to enjoy…" is a direct quote from the captain when someone posed the question of why he had this somewhat strange routine.
Due to his birth-defect, his tail wasn't the only thing early on that was out of the ordinary when it came to Alabaster. It also seems like he doesn't have the ability to evolve. While most Pokémon with this crucial ability might think that this has brought Alabaster down, it is not the case. The Makney-captain has never been feeling blue about it, he simply accepted it and learned to live with it. In fact, it has made an impact on him regarding the strengths of different people. Alabaster thinks that no matter who you are, what size you have, or what age you have, you are ALWAYS able to amount to great things. He has learned this due to the fact that he was able to climb relatively high in regards to power and fame while "only" being an unevolved Pokémon.
Alabaster's earrings are very treasured belongings to the Mankey, he could never even think of being apart from them. So if someone would try to steal or destroy these, they would get a taste of Alabaster's seldom seen fury.
History: Alabaster Zol was born to a Primeape father as well as a Primeape mother. His father, Orwell "The Burning Ape" Zol was a pirate famous for his extremely short temper, his brute-like ways and mostly for his possession of the Flare Blitz-fruit's powers. His mother Alicia Zol, was a simple housewife who was more comfortable cooking, cleaning the house and taking care of hers and Orwell's children than anything else. She was your typical happy and nice mother-figure. Alabaster loved his mother dearly, there was no mistaking it. While his father was short-tempered, ruthless, and almost always off with his crew, Alabaster still held him dearly and had a lot of respect for him.
Alabaster's childhood and upbringing wasn't anything special. He wasn't especially bullied or teased, he wasn't abused by his parents and he didn't have a life-threatening disease. It was just Alabaster playing with his friends and siblings on the community of floating houses built around a tiny island. It was just Alabaster going to school like a normal kid, learning things from a wide range of subjects. The only thing slightly irregular from the "ideal" way of living was the absence of Alabaster's father.
As a child, Alabaster was quite different from how he is now. He was what you would best describe as "a wild child". He was quite the little hooligan, causing commotion just about every time he got the chance. Like his father, the Mankey had quite the temperament when he was a child, getting into fights over extremely silly things with other children. Although he liked to cause commotion and fights, Alabaster was never disliked since he had a noble spirit and always apologized for what he'd done as well as try his best to redeem himself.
It was later in his life that Alabaster and his family noticed that something was wrong with him. All of the Mankey's siblings had eventually evolved into Primeapes, but not him. He started training each and every day to become stronger in hope of being able to evolve then. But no matter how much he trained, Alabaster remained a Mankey and nothing else. At first it saddened him a bit, but after some days of thinking he finally realized that it was a chance for him to prove himself just as strong, or even stronger, than most Primeapes.
One day Alabaster had heard of a temple where monks usually trained, it was said that many Pokémon seeking to be more powerful traveled there to train. Apparently most of them came out, simply more powerful. This news had made Alabaster excited, a way to get stronger, a way to prove that his inability to evolve wasn't such a setback! But when he had discussed it with his parents, his father had promptly said no. A heated argument then broke out, powerful words were thrown everywhere, as well as some pieces of furniture, and in the end Alabaster and his father stormed out of the house. Both going their separate ways. Eventually, Alabaster came home, but there was no trace of his father. It became late, but no Orwell, everyone went to bed, but no Orwell. It took three days before the Zol-family heard a knocking on their door. Of course they thought that it was Orwell, however this was not the case. Instead it had been Takko, an Aipom on Orwell's ship. He was completely in shock, wet, cold and shaking like a leaf while desperately clutching something in his paw. After a while in the warm house with some blankets wrapped around him, Takko demanded to speak to Alabaster and Alabaster alone. He had asked the Makney to hold out his hand, which Alabaster obediently did. Takko had then dropped something into his hand, two earrings. They looked very familiar to Alabaster, and Takko then explained why.
When Orwell had stormed out that evening after his and Alabaster's fight, he quickly went on the ship to set sail. All of his men came along, including Takko, to go off on some sea-adventures. However, this wasn't how it was going to turn out, much to their dismay. As they were sailing, the ship had suddenly stopped, Orwell ordered his men to find out the cause for this. They did, but the cause was far more threatening then they could've imagined. A GIANT rampaging Gyarados, maybe thrice the size of a normal one had crashed into the ship, stopping it completely as well as making it start to sink. In panic, the crew aboard the ship tried to stop the Gyarados, but to no avail. That was when Orwell had called for Takko, he had then ripped his earrings off and given them to the Aipom with the words,
"Tonight I had a fight with my son. We were both very angry at each other. Now I stand here, on a sinking ship, unable to swim due to the fruit I have ingested. I will never see my family again… It saddens me. However, I want you to find my son and give him the earrings. Tell him that… he is very dear to me and I love him no matter what…"
Alabaster was completely devastated by the news, as was his family when he told them about the incident. The Mankey blamed himself for it, if he hadn't gotten so angry, the argument hadn't reached the point of where it made his father leaved the house. He swore upon his father's grave to never let anyone get hurt by his anger anymore, so he abolished the feeling of fury and took the calm personality he has today. Although his anger is still sleeping within him, and is very dangerous if released. Alabaster also swore to become an even bigger pirate than his father, for the both of them. There was no more doubt in his mind, no one could stop him from traveling to that temple in order to train. The journey there was long and exhausting, but Alabaster eventually made it. He started to train almost immediately when he got there. Training under a Hitmonchan-sensei, he eventually learned the art of the Fire Punch. Alabaster saw this move as a homage to his father who was called "The Burning Ape", in the process of learning this move the fur on his arms also got burned. The hair would never grow again and it would always stay dark. This pleased the Mankey even more as he now would have a smell of smoke, commonly related to fire, around him.
So eventually, Alabaster became the captain of the Scorching Mind crew and got his hands on a ship, a very good ship at that. He travelled back to his home island for one thing, to recruit Takko. The Aipom had been regarded crazy as no one believed the tale of the giant Gyarados, but of course Alabaster believed him. Takko happily accepted the offer and became a part of the Scorching Mind crew. As a last homage to his father, Alabaster named his boat "The Burning Ape".

1. Takko Tripwood. A 38 year-old Aipom that loves to gamble, but he often loses whatever he bets. Many say that he is a very bad influence on Alabaster, however the Mankey doesn't mind his shenanigans that much. Takko also loves to play pranks and is often regarded as childish, but when it comes down to it the Aipom is a trustworthy and valuable partner. He is very skilled in close combat.
